Somebody please help me...

My knife collecting is turning into a full blown obsession, and I need your help. I have a few knives, but I want A TON MORE.

Which of the following will satisfy my "need a new knife now" craving the longest?

I want a Chris Reeve folder, either a Large Sebenza or Umnumzaan.

I also want a bigger outdoors knife, but I don't have it narrowed down as much. I have a couple medium sized blades in the Fehrman Last Chance and Cold Steel SRK, but I want a bigger one along the lines of a Busse, another bigger Fehrman, an ESEE Junglas, or even a custom. I really like the look of the Koster Monster Nessie, too. The ESEE Junglas is my new obsession out of the ones listed.

The Chris Reeve, being an EDC knife, would definitely get more daily use. The bigger outdoor knife has more of a specialized role and wouldn't get daily use, but it is still an important piece in my knife collection and something I've wanted for a while.

I think these are some great knives, but very different. I want them ALL, but I can't afford them all right now, and won't be able to for a while, so I want to get the one that will satisfy my never ending desire to collect knives the longest, so my wife doesn't throw a fit at another knife purchase (I just bought an Izula yesterday).

Right now I'm leaning towards the Umnumzaan.

Better yet, I am accepting donations of any of the above mentioned knives for anyone who is interested in saving my marriage!

Thanks

J

So, basicly you're asking other knife nuts help not collecting knives? You're cravings will stop temporarily when you buy those you've craved most... or you find the knife you like most.

Best is getting knife that you would use most... As for intervention, here you probably won't find help I am affraid, we're all more or less in same situation :D

Can't help you with the large fixed blade, but I have owned a large Sebenza and I currently own an Umnumzaan.

They are both great knives - you really can't go wrong with either. I personally like the Umnum better than the Sebenza - it suits my needs more.
I have been edcing the Umnum for the last 2 weeks now and I think it may end up being in my pocket for quite a while. I like the pattern on the scales, the shape and smaller sweep of the blade, the thump ramp located mid-spline of the blade, and the overall look and feel of the knife. I'm not sure I will ever use the glass breaker protrusion but it's nice to have.

BTW - I have a Nyala coming tomorrow - I hope that satisfies my itch for a general purpose fixed blade. I have little use for the monster fixed blades.

hmmm...try trading? if you dont want to spend money and you have a big knife collection ya might as well if you have some knives you wont mind parting with.

+1 on the trading idea. I found trading the best way to satisfy my new knife need without spending more then a few bucks for shipping... And for me I found that after buying a Strider i now crave more expensive knives. I cant settle for a kershaw skyline now i gotta have a CRK or a custom bali. to bad im poor...

I have thought about the trading area, but I need more knives I think because my resources are limited. It's all about supply and demand, and YOU guys have all the knives! I have a Carter Cutlery neck knife, a SOG foler, my Ferhman Last Chance, and my Cold Steel SRK. All are users so probably won't fetch that much as they are worn, plus, I like them all!

I think you right about getting the one that suits my needs best. I think the Umnumzaan is going to be the next one in my pocket.

I really like the Wilson Startac version, and Charmaine at CRK just informed me this morning that it is identical to the regular Umny except for the Startac design on the face, and it is covered by the CRK warranty. Are there many of those out there? I know it was a limited run. I'd love to have that model!

Help:confused: Heck, Me and most around this place have more, and want way more than that:p

Not even sure I would call your case an addiction or not, but if it is, about all I have to say is Welcome to the Club:thumbup:

Yeah, this is what I did....switch to cigars! Not sure that's going to save me any money....but umm....hey you can tell your wife it's not a knife :D. I found getting new knives does 2 things :

1. I always want better knives, bought a SMF, want an XM-18
2. The excitement of even a $400 knife is still the same as any other knife.
3. I'm out of cigars I need more sounds better than I need my #2-100 knife.

You can do the same thing with beer, I do that as well...and bourbon. Maybe rum.....

While I may be in the early stages and may not have a collection as impressive as some of ya'lls on here, it is still to the point where I feel I can safely say...

My name is JGON and I am a knife-a-holic.

Can't wait to get my Izula in the mail, and in month when I get my bonus check I will likely be purchasing an Umnumzaan, unless something else comes up that I want more.

If I sold my guns, I could buy my entire knife wish list 3 times over... On the other hand, if I sold all my knives, I could buy my Saiga-12 AND a HK G3... Oh silly dilemmas.

Dude you want to STOP obsessing about collecting knives the WORST thing you could do is to buy CRK's, Busse's and ESEE's..........:o

These manufacturers are the heroin, meth and crack of the knife world:D

"Hello Steven"

Your collecting will taper off more than likely after you try various types of knives and find the ones you really like the most. That has kind of happened to me recently. I don't carry about 90% of what I own, some are not even collector items. I've ended up cleaning the safe so to speak.

What you can do to save money is buy some user knives here on the exchange. I've been lucky and found some great deals on knives here. Some that I probably would not have bought new, or have been able to find.

You can sell you blood plasma for 35 bucks and pick up cans for 35 cents a pound. If you ever get sick of the want for knives try collecting guns.

I currently own a Mossberg 590 12 gauge pump, as well as a Springfield XD .45. I am happy with my current gun collection, it's the knives I can't seem to get enough of.

Selling plasma is an idea I haven't thought of though. Do they have a black market demand for this?
