Joe Hargis vs. Ray Ennis
Today I was able to get out a little and check out my newest knife... one made to my specs by Joe... we will call it the field knife I did some light batoning and made a couple of fuzz sticks.
OK, about the knives ... the Entrek Bravo 11 is 1/4 in 440c stainless steel, 4 9/16 long blade, I redid the handles. The field knife is 3/16 thick 1095 carbon steel with a 5 in blade. This is my first custom and first knife with a carbon steel blade. First off I noticed that there is a BIG difference in weight. The Entrek weighs much more, even with the shorter blade. Second I believe that the Entrek has a saber grind which is fine but I think that it would do much better fuzz sticks if it had a ffg like the field knife. Both knives have great f&f and have solid construction and while I feel that both are worth the money I spent, but I'm leaning towards the field knife as my new field knife. Enjoy the pics...

And of course with all that fuzzy stuff there needs to be a fire!

that looks like a good time! Did you find that the field knife with FFG was s easy to baton with as the Entrek?

Awesome pics and knives, I LOVES me some catfish! People that say 'catfish is gross because don't they eat mud or something?' obviously know nothing about catfish (also, unless it's wild catfish, many catfish farms now top feed them so they are not mud suckers!).

That's where I'm torn... I found that batoning the Entrek was harder because of the thicker steel and steeper grind but the wood split faster because of the same reason. With the field knife it was just the opposite ... it batoned easier bit took longer for the wood to split. I think overall I prefer the easier batoning with the thinner blade and lighter weight.

Lol... these were wild channel cats that I caught myself. I love fishing for them almost as much as I love eating them. Nothing like fresh fish!!

That's what's always put me off Entrek. Everything I've ever heard about them has been very positive they are just too much knife for me. 4-5mm and flat and I would have bought one a long time ago.

Great review and pics and excellent fuzzies. I've liked that 11 bravo for a while but have a javalina and don't carry her much for some of the same reasons. Prefer the ffg of an Esee4 or BHK bushcrafter. Like your custom, thanks for sharing the pics.
