Hello all,

I have asked before for some Spyderco knife recommendations but I always end up more unsure after reading all the options. So I'm wondering if those of you who have a collection of Spyderco knives and a Benchmade Bugout or Kershaw Bareknuckle could take a picture of them together as a size reference. I also have a GEC 93 and a Case Mini Copperlock.

I'm looking for my first Spyderco but don't really have a local place to go try any out. Your help is appreciated.

What Spyderco are you interested in?
I didn't like any of them for the longest time but recently they have piqued my interest for some reason. I think hanging around here is to blame .

I have bounced between the manix 2, para 3, PM 2, native and chaparral.... And maybe the smock for ultimate fidget. I also would like to try one in not s30v just because I have that already.

I own or have handled all of those models. Spyderco is a favorite brand for me but I find the reality is, I have to handle them to know how each model will work for me. Without too much brick and mortar options, it's resulted in me having a fair number of Spydies. Sometimes the handle shape just hits my hand wrong. The Para 3 and Stretch 2 are great examples. Awesome knives that hit my fingers just a bit wrong. Yet tons of folks absolutely love them. So it's a personal thing.

I have several Case Mini Copperlocks and can say that all of what you listed will be overall larger than one of those. I think the Mini Copperlock is an awesome design and you get a lot of edge for the package size. I like the Dragonfly 2 more than the Chaparral.

All that said, it is hard for me not to recommend the Manix 2. It is a brilliant design and for a number of months my primary go-to's were a Mini Copperlock and a Manix 2 Lightweight. I actually prefer the lightweight models and sand off the faux jimping. I find this model fits my hand better than the PM2 and I prefer the lock and wire clip.

A quick shot with an Pacific Salt (Endura size as well I think), Bugout, and Manix 2. Also, I agree with the above sentiment that it is hard to go wrong with the Manix.

Thank you both very much for the comments and the photo. I'm drawn my the manix 2 also and like the mechanics of the lock. A lot of people always seem to comment on the size in pocket. Is it really that bad? Also from the picture it take doesn't seem that much larger than the Bugout. That may have sealed it for me.

It's not bad for me in pocket but I should add that I don't wear jeans and typically wear pants with larger pockets. Also I don't mind large knives in general, and moreover the Manix was my first Spyderco so I got used to it without having smaller ones to compare it to. All I can say is that it feels perfect to me in hand and I don't think that would be the case if it were more pocket friendly. I personally have always much preferred it over the PM2, though many others are of the opposite opinion. YMMV.

I wear jeans to khakis and I don't think it is a big deal. I carry it in my pocket with my keys and some folding glasses that are about the size of a Zippo lighter. Not an issue for me.

Here are a couple quick shots I had on my phone they may help with some size .... first is an Endura ... PM2 ... Manix 2 ... and a Delica ...

this has a couple Manix 2 on top of a couple Delicas and a Native 5 on the side ...

The Manix 2 and Native 5 are probably my most carried ... Delica following up in the summer time. The Maanix 2 doesn't take up anymore pocket than the PM2 I'm not sure why it gets that bad rap. I have a picture on my laptop at home of the PM2 and Manix2 laying in front of one another on the spine and it shows it is close to exactly the same size print.

I can hit 3/5 of those plus the reference Bugout you mentioned, hope this helps. Shot straight down and with pivots aligned as best as I could manage (PM2, Smock, Bugout, Chaparral). :)

I've owned an S30V/G10 Manix 2 and a Manix 2 Lightweight, and while I liked them both I eventually sold them. For my needs and preferences, other knives in my collection do what the Manix 2 does better in both incarnations -- but it's a proven model with tons of fans, and variations, and a rock-solid performer.

Thank you. That actually answered what was going to be the next question of manix 2 vs pm 2 size comparison. I appreciate it.

:) Sorry OP , not what you asked for , but IMO , Cold Steel American Lawman is a much less expensive and better quality option with a stronger lock .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Amazing shot. Thank you for that. I am now more uncertain than ever. Do you have a favorite model?

My friend tried out one of my Manix 2's and loved it so he bought one. That hooked him and he soon bought a PM2. He decided he liked that even better than the M2LW. Many Spydie fans kinda land on those two models as "the best". But that led him to the Para 3 and he absolutely loves that model and has bought multiples.

It really is about what works for you.

Of Spydie? Overall, the Military. The PM2 is a close second, and legal in more places. I like both the standard (albeit in M390) and waved versions.

All suggestions are welcome.

Yeah I'm at the point of not knowing again. I may go for the para 3 in maximet and g10...
