I don't know where else to ask this. Sorry if I'm at the wrong spot.

Does anybody know of a good knife shop in Rochester or Buffalo?

Rochester is pretty much a wasteland as far as knife shops go.But there is a shop called Village Cutlery in Scottsville just outside of Roch.Best place to go in this area And the owner is fun to talk with. Also if your into woodworking & furniture be sure to check out Wendell Castle's studio in Scottsville also.

Creekside Gun Shop, which is just outside of Rochester - in Holcomb, used to carry quite a selection of knives. I haven't been there in a year or so, you might want to give them a call.

*** Probably the biggest "shooter's place" in the area.

Village Cutlery in Scottsville is about it for the Rochester area. It's actually a pretty good shop, however. I bought a Benchmade Leopard there for a price as good as I've seen anywhere on the net. The stock varies (he's trying to cut back), but he usually has a selection of Benchmade, Spyderco, Kershaw, etc. folders. He also has a fairly wide selection (for a small store) of fixed blades, including some nice Dunn's. He has some good Kitchen knives.

Don't be put off by some of the low end junk knives on display. Unfortunatly, that's what sells to a lot of the folks walking through the door. Also, don't be put off by the owner. He can be somewhat testy & rather oppinionated. He's a pretty nice guy though, and he knows a great deal about knives, and about the history of local manufacturers. Every trip I've made there has been worth while.

I'd suggest calling before you show up. His hours are irregular, and don't always coincide with what's posted on the door.

Hope this helps.

Haven't been to the Cutlery Shop yet but I will now that I know it is there. Dicks' has knives, specifically Buck, Browning, Spyderco, etc. Expect to pay retail. Creekside did indeed have a very nice collection specializing in W.C. Davis. Prices were retail, they also sell Ontario, and now Cold Steel. Ex. of prices of CS stuff is a Bush Ranger in Carbon V @ 96 bucks. R&F Gunshop on Dewey Ave. sells some CS stuff as well as the American Sportsman on Culver Rd. BM and the like there. Expensive more so than the net but not quite like Dicks or Creekside. Keep'em sharp.
