What degree should I be sharpening my pocket knives at on the Edge Pro Apex?
I have been using a Spyderco Sharpmaker at the suggested 15° or 30 ° inclusive.
Ben Dale say to sharpen pocket knives at 24° to 21° depending on blade thickness.

What degree should it be?

What knives/steels? Ben and I had a discussion about this, and his thinking is that 15 dps is ridiculously thin, which is the majority of what my knives are sharpened to (unless I decide to microbevel on subsequent touchups). He's a pioneer and innovator in the sharpening world and an awesome guy, but it made me wonder how much exposure to modern steels he's had...

I have one blade on my trapper sharpened at 7 degrees. The other is at 17 w/ a 20 degree microbevel. On modern folders I have them at 12 degrees with a 15 degree microbevel.

Most of the slip joints that I see are made of the old time traditional steels. Mr. Dale would be correct for those knives.

If you have a slip made of a modern steel, (I don't recall ever seeing one) then 15* per side would be very reasonable.
