Knife design for increase penetration

As in thrusting?
Kukri's weren't designed to thrust very well (although it can, somewhat).
They excel at slashing/hacking.

Well to increase tip penetration you can thin the spine near the point. Give it a false-edge / swedge or even a double-edge near the tip. Works great with my Cold Steel Kukri machete.
In your case i would first check if the blade if tempered at the spine....and if you really want to mess with it.

ps. local knife laws may also have something to say about double-edges.

Precisely. In fact, its the worst possible design for thrusting. If you want to increase its thrusting ability, duct tape an ice pick to the tip.

I completely agree that a kukri is a poor thrusting 'weapon'. Nor will a wide tip kukri, even with a false edge, be a very well thruster. But if personal preference requires a increase in penetration, who cares, it's HIS blade.

so how many inches from the edge do you would recommend.

If i were you I would swedge 1/3 of the top spine. Maybe research some kukri's with a swedge and apply that swedge/total-length ratio. Take a waterproof marker and draw something on. Check what looks good to the overall design.

A khukuri like your example will never be a good stabbing weapon. The blade is inherently tip-heavy, and will pull a stroke or stab downward. Fighting that tendency will slow the stab and tire the stabber.

There are slimmer, straighter models that will stab much better, and a bit of modification will increase their ability to do that. A khukuri with less weight per length is best.

Pure thrusting - use a triangular cross section like the old bayonets.

what model would you recommend?

I'd suggest a model that isnt a kukhri. How about a dagger? Or something in a spear point? Arkansas Toothpick? Pig Sticker? Its not like there aren't dozens of knife styles designed for poking. Why would one even consider one that is designed exactly for not poking?

It like asking what boxing glove is the best to catch a baseball with.
