So a guy I work with is into knives to an extent. He's a gun trader and deals with pawn shops heavily, but also happens to enjoy knives and picks up a batch every now and then to pass around for his connections for a little off the top. When I first met the guy, he carried an old Benchmade (props), but the knives he brought around tended to be old Schrade, Case etc. By old I mean worn out and pretty broken in some cases.

Anyway, after a little steel education, the guy picks up a newer Benchmade and a Centofante 3 from me. Lo and behold, his knife selection starts to improve. When I start bringing up fixed blades, bayonets and larger Case/Schrade/Buck fixed blades start showing up as well. Slowly but surely, his taste was improving over time.

Cut to Friday, when this guy (who knows I love ESEE) pulls a friggin ESEE-6 with a coyote brown sheath out. He let it go for $75, brand new! I know this isn't a grail knife for most people, and isn't for myself at that, but I had been thinking of pulling the trigger on one for ages and to have it fall into my lap at that price was awesome. If I had never tried to shed some light on all the options and brands that my co-worker was unaware of, I would have never lucked out like that.

As the title says, sometimes educating people on the varied aspects of the tools that we hold in such high regard can bring unexpected rewards. If you have any similar positive experiences, feel free to share.

Dig the story!

Friend of mine I enlightened once ultimately nabbed me a pm2 which all came back to me getting him into knives by gifting a tactical folders book on him one christmas ;) he's since been sick with it.
