Live presentations in

Wood Carving.
Amateur knifemaking contest open to the public. Entries must be submitted on Sunday before 11:59 am by the maker, and the maker must be present to win.
Last year, there were some issues last year backpacks and rolling carts.
There have been threads in years past about brown bagging at shows and I think everyone understands that it is an unacceptable practice that cheats the tableholders who pay for the show. Basically, we want to ensure that any business transacted on the show floor should be with a table holder--that is, one is buying something from a table holder or selling something to a table holder.
If someone brings knives to sell or deliver to but is not paying for the privilege by paying for a table, or a table, we ask that it not be done on show floor, but outside somewhere. If I had ordered a knife from John Knifemaker who is not a tableholder, for example, and I met him at the show, we should make the exchange outside the show room. That is only fair to the table holders.
The wheeled cart thing is actually an insurance issue. The insurance companies tell us that strollers and other rolling carts increase the hazard of someone tripping over it or being hit, and our insurance would roughly double if we allowed them. That's why the no strollers, rolling packs, etc. rule.
Our long-time raffle chairman, retired RBFD Battalion Chief Steve Nothern, succumbed to cancer last year. I will be trying to fill his shoes and will be running the raffle this year. Raffles go on all day every day at the show, so there are lots of chances to win stuff. We also welcome contributions to the raffle booty if you are a maker, vendor or whatever and you want to add something to the pot, just see me at the club booth. Be sure to include a business card or something with your name so we can acknowledge your gift.
For those who think the show "sucks," well, we are trying. This show is not put on by a professional organization, or a for-profit company, knife vendor, magazine, etc. It is put on by a small club of knife collectors like you, who 28 years ago wanted to do something to expose knife collecting to more people and give knife enthusiasts a chance to meet makers, see knives in person instead of just in pictures, etc.
If you have a specific suggestion about improving the show, please feel free to email me privately at res00vjl(at)verizon.net and I will be sure your suggestions are discussed. Better still, join the club, participate in the meetings, and help put on the show. We would welcome the help.
I look forward to seeing everybody there!!
