Hey knife gurus … I was looking at a what I would consider a grail like knife (Robjohnsons -Cedar). There are options to choose from in blade finish and scale finish.

***Looking for some direction and education on these finishes and overall thoughts on this knife. Thanks in advance!***

Blade Finish
Zirblasted
Stonewashed
Acid Washed/Satin Flats

Scale Finish
Satin raw
Zirblasted
Stonewashed

The scale finishes are shown on his site, just look at the pictures. From there, the blade finishes are pretty straightforward... Acid washed with satin flats will be two-toned - look at the cypress for that one.
Prices aren't listed, so I can't comment on that aspect; but the handle shape of the Cedar doesn't thrill me so the price wouldn't matter to me. My thoughts don't matter, though - if you consider it a Grail, pick the configuration you like best and take your shot.

Thanks. I was having a hard time deciphering the pictures. didn’t seem like the labels were coming up on my iPhone. I’ll check it out on my home computer and see if I can see the label descriptions.

as always appreciate the response.

***For conversation sake, what would be your Grail?

The finish would entirely depend on the year(s) the blade was produced. For example, one of my two "Grail" knives was manufactured early in WWII. It was parkerized and, many decades later, still shows it. The other one, produced in the late 1960's , isn't.

What I consider a Grail is irrelevant. If the Cedar checks the boxes for you, that's all that matters...but, for conversation sake, I would be hard pressed to identify a Grail. I have more than enough knives & haven't really been paying attention to the new stuff. I'm not saying I don't like to look, or even that I won't buy; just that there isn't currently anything that I have found myself wanting.
My last two folder purchases were made based on visual appeal, knowing full well that I likely wasn't going to like them. For me, a Grail level knife would check all my boxes: visually appealing, anticipation of being good in hand, and not an obligate flipper (the Cedar has both an alternative opening mechanism and an appealingly subtle flipper tab...if it weren't for that handle shape, I'd be interested). Size doesn't matter, since the last two folders that claimed my pocket were at opposite end of that spectrum.
