Hey all. I've been MIA from the forums for quite some time now. Life seemed to take priority (house, dog, promotion, first baby.... you all get the idea) Perhaps some of you old timers remember me.

I was at the workbench and saw the BK-24 sitting next to one of the axes I had out and it got me thinking the 3 blade combos or nessmuk trios (however you prefer to call them). These three are a combo I have used before. Let's see your guys! One of the three must be a becker though! Pics or it didn't happen.

My combo:
  • Customized Bk-24 with micarta scales.
  • Customized TrueTemper Tommyaxe with a black locust handle I carved for it.
  • Victorinox Pioneer ALOX in green.

Now it's your turn!

Hey, I remember you, haha. You're the awesome photo chopper. :D

I have been meaning to do a thread on this for some time, and keep forgetting to take the photos of the trio. I was gunna call it "Beckermuk" trio though, haha. I will get some photos when I can. Good to see ya back man.

I’ve been thinking about this too. You have a cool trio, but for mine, I want a bigger fixed blade. Btw, that’s a cool 24 you have there. It may be too large by Newsmuk’s standards, but I’m leaning towards the King.

Nice Work! I especially like the extra finger room you Ground and scales you made on your 24 :thumbsup:

Great pics.
Love this thread!
I’ll try to post a proper trio this weekend.

Thanks for the kind words all! I have a bit of an axe addiction so there are lots of options with all the Berkers. Next time I'm in the garage I'll have to toss together another set. Looking forward to seeing your guys trios!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

This wasn’t an easy choice. My selections are unorthodox...

A vintage rehung Master Builder carpenter hatchet- I like the idea of having something to chop with and a hammer. Plus, it’s smaller, stout, and a nice example of old school Philly craftsmanship.

Kershaw M390 Dividend- This blade feels good in my hand. This is for precise work. It is razor sharp and stays that way. Also made in the USA.

BK9- The King can cut, chop and baton. It can do it all. Superb design and Upstate NY craftsmanship.

That axe is a thing of beauty, Nsvens. Nicely done! Looking forward to your other axe pics...

Snapped a few quick pics. When I’m feeling traditional, I’ll take my Beckhart (of course), and maybe a no.8 Opinel in my pocket. I’ll usually grab my axe; an old Hults Bruks 2-1/2 lb’er from my Dad I cut down to about a 1-3/4 lb Hudson Bay pattern.

For a little less traditional feel, I’ll grab a sixteen, and some sort of SAK:

Other times I’ll ditch the axe completely and grab a BK4 in its place.

More often than not, I’ll make the trio a quartet, with the addition of some sort of saw. Lately it’s been a home made buck saw.

This is my absolute favorite setup for woods bumming these days. Perfect for any type of woods processing I need done. Great idea for a thread; looking forward to everyone else’s pics...

Dr Rez Dr Rez thank you! I have a thread on here from way back about making them from a set of tweener scales. Not sure if all the pics still work. I'll have to check and link it.

GeofS GeofS I love the dark red scales on that King! I also like the idea of the half hatchet. I modified that Tommyaxe due to it having the hardened poll. When I got this one both of the teeth on the nail puller section were badly damaged. So I took it to the grinder and tried to make it look more like a old plumb national pattern (one of my all time favorites).

A Aikiguy loving those combos! I have been meaning to try making a buck saw for ages now. Yours looks awesome! I'm also very much drooling over your beckheart. Perhaps after the holidays one will find it's way into my collection. As far as my other axes.... there are many of them. I definitely have an addiction. I'll put together another trio this afternoon with some different steel

Thank you everyone for contributing! I'm loving seeing these combos! Keep them coming!

I’ve been thinking about this thread again. I tried to come up with a trio that I could easily grab that would cover the bases pretty well.

Here’s my latest trio...

Yes, a bit unconventional. :)

KA-BAR Parangatang- for my versatile chopper. This blade is a beast that could be swung or batoned. The 1095cv holds an edge well and can be easily resharpened. IMHO, much more practical than a small double bit axe.

BK14 with TKC extended grip scales - the extra 1/2 inch these scales give make a good knife an exceptional knife. This will be my sturdy fixed blade. Again, you can’t go wrong with 1095cv.

RAT2 in D2 - this will be my small slicey folder. It’s a wonderful no frills blade. It’s completely stock save for a glow in the dark back spacer.

I’m going to try to come up with a rig for them.
