I have a friend who has been wanting to get a good knife for EDC, but told me he wouldn't until he got a job and the money to do so.
This friend has really no experience in the finer details of knives (lock types, steel quality, handle materials, etc), he basically knows as much about knives as I've told him while acquiring mine. This will be his first good quality knife. So I was going to help him pick out a knife that he could buy...then it just hit me, his birthday is today and I hadn't planned to do more than buy him a few drinks or pay for his food or whatever when we hang out, but I want to do more this year for him. I want to get him his first knife. I won't list out requirements and specs I want to find, because I've already narrowed it down to 2 knives. They are similarly priced and have similar specs, but I just want a final push towards one or the other based on some of your experiences with these particular knives...
The first is the Kershaw Blur
Blade steel is stonewashed s30v, handles are aluminum with grip inserts, assisted opening via thumb studs, liner lock, left/right tip-up pocket clip.
The second is the Buck Vantage Force Pro
Blade steel is black coated s30v (Bos heat treat?), handles are blue/black G10, manual opening via flipper/thumb hole, liner lock, left/right tip-up pocket clip.
Feel free to throw out some other suggestions, but I'm pretty much locked on to one of these two.
Yes, I've already looked into a Paramilitary 2, it's a very very close 3rd for consideration.
