Here is one I started yesterday, it is almost ready for heat treat.

.262 5160 Steel
8.5" overall with a 3.5" blade

This one is going to be a little different that my other knives, it will get a wood handle! I'm probably going to use either some redwood burl, rosewood, or walnut, I still haven't decided.

The very beginning: :D

It is in the temper oven right now, here it is right out of the quench oil... still dripping and too hot to touch!

You can see I drilled some more chamfered holes for really nice balance.

Here it is fully ground! The reflections throw everything off, you can see a line in the middle of the blade, that's the camera and lanyard, and on the bevel on the far right you can see an open door which makes the bevel appear triangular, it's not.

Well, I got the first stage of antiquing done and now it is time for some walnut scales. I've been saving the walnut for something special, this knife is going to my hometown so this is it! :D

Holes lined up...

I dig the photo of it fresh outta the oil! Keep up the good work.. :D

think chopper, recurved slicer, and push cutter (rope or twine or... against trees or posts or whatever). here's a taste of that "blunt" end you were asking about Lycosa:

It has taken me some time to get the antiquing and the handle right, you have to do some pretty odd things for patinas sometimes!

Here it is 100 years later...

I mean after about 3 days of "aging." :)

I molded up some Kydex for the start of a Kydex lined leather sheath.

It was snowing last night when I took the photo, that isn't Kydex dust. :D

It's all finished up! :D

Here is the sheath with the leather on it. I aged the leather a fair bit also so it matches the knife. I'm liking the leather over Kydex a lot, no corrosion like a leather sheath and great Kydex retention, look good too!

The Chicago screws can be unscrewed and the leather removed if desired, it is also spaced so a tek-lok could be added later if the user wants one. :D

The waxed leather is really weather resistant.

Did you make more than one? I ask, because I am loving this blade shape (and your process) more and more each time I look at this thread...

Thanks for posting!

Brad
