Knife for a Marine

I just found out from his grandmother that a young man in my church who I taught in youth group for several years is shipping out to Iraq this week, perhaps as early as tomorrow. She is supposed to be contacting him to let me know if he needs a knife. He is a Marine trained in weapons guidance systems and, according to her, will be humvee-based.

Which of the following should I send him?

Desert Anorexic Badger
BA3
CG Satin Jack 3/16"
CG NO
CG Steel Heart
My ZT NO user
My ZT SH user

I am thinking Satin Jack at present, because the larger ones might run into unit limitations on carry, and it would be more versatile than the smaller ones. Also might be ideal compromise as far as weight is concerned. I hope to get an E-Mail address tonight so I can get his input.

Nick? Bill? Others? Any suggestions?

If I could only carry one knife, it would prolly be a CG 3/16" Satin Jack. Not too heavy, long enough to chop with if need be, slim profile so its not in the way. SJ's are cool  :D

Since it will be used for CUTTING chores more than anything else, (they have tools for prying) I think that the Desert AB would be the most useful. Just make sure that he understands the nature of the blade he is receiving.

N.O. He is more likely to be using it to open ammo crates (wood prying and metal band cutting) than anything else. also he will use it to open other foodstuffs up, if he is lucky to be staying in one of saddams former palaces. SJ wouldn't be bad either for any of those functions. Also, the SJ is a better throwing knife:D , so he may be able to have some fun with it in his off time. Make sure you have a nylon sheath with the extra pocket and throw in a SAK, since he is likely to need that even more. Also, tell him that the Busse is not a stirring tool for his kerosene/shiet burning duty.

Mike,
IF he is a lower ranking Marine send him the BA3. It is small but can cut well and is of course indestructable. It's smaller size will make it less noticable to his chain of command and less likely to be confiscated. It would appear to be more the tool that it is than a big 'ol "Rambo" knife some private is carrying. You would be suprised how anal some people are about knives even in combat. Adding a multitool if he does not already have one would be the most useful thing you could give him. Extremely useful and very unlike to offend chain of command.Just my two cents. :)
I hope he makes it there and back safely.

I agree with Nick, send him the BA3 or maybe even the SJ and take up a collection to get him a SOG one hander;)
