Im planning on visiting my cousin in Chicago a little after Christmas and wanted to buy him a pocket knife. There is a 2.5 in blade length limit in Chicago so that really limits options. I was wondering if you guys could give me some suggestions.

I head to Chicago a few times a year to catch my Cubbies and I have always carried whatever the hell I want without any trouble whatsoever. As long as you aren't raising hell and flashing it everywhere it shouldnt matter. I actually asked a cop if my Sebenza was legal to carry and he was completely cool about it.
But yea, if you're worried about it, the Spyd Chicago would be a nice gesture to the fine city.
Or a nice GEC slipjoint...or both ;)

I edc a spyderco military and a shivworks disciple just about everyday. I live in the city. Be a courteous, respectful, and civilized human being and you most likely will not be hassled.

I would also recommend the Spyderco Chicago. It's a good quality knife for the price, and he might enjoy the fact that it is named after the city he lives in.

KNaB is correct. If one is not acting like a goofball, nobody really cares what knife is in your pocket. That said a Vic Classic is all I really need to carry in Chicago.

Spyderco Cat
Spyderco Ambitious
SOG Flash I
Kershaw Scallion

My favorite of those is the Cat. It feels nice in the hand and has the least suspicious looking clip of all the knives I own. I also carry the Flash I a lot because it is the most compact and lightweight of the ones I have with that blade length. I carried it earlier today when I went to McCormick Place.

  • Spyderco Air by Gayle Bradley (melts in your pocket and weighs just 1.3 ounces)
  • Spyderco Leaf Storm (nice frame lock)
  • Spyderco Techno (thick blade - mini beast)
  • Spyderco Cat
  • Spyderco Chicago
