So my girlfriend already has mace but I also want to get her a folding knife for self defensive purposes. So here's what I'm looking for.
- blade length of at least 3 inches
- slim and/or short handle (this one is especially important; she has small hands)
- manual action (also a must; no autos or assists)
- preferably "flipper" opening system
- preferably clip point blade.
Don't worry about training; that will be accounted for.

Thanks Blade Forums!

I got this for my girlfriend! Emerson CQC-14 Snubby AKA The Piglett! *EDIT* The wave feature snags on the lip of jeans to flick open if that helps. Unfortunately, this one has been de-waved. She like it though.

I struggled with this big time. I told her that I wanted to buy her a nice knife. I was thinking a nicer BM/Spydie/Kershaw folder. The problem is that she NEVER properly cleans my knives when she uses them. She gunks up the pivot every chance she gets! She displays zero appreciation for the tool as far as proper use/care.
The other day we were making costumes for a party. She was a cop and I was a prisoner. I gave her my lg Seb to cut out a cardboard star for a badge. I heard my buddy say "does Archie know you're doing that?" coming from the front porch. She was cutting through the cardboard against concrete! She damaged the blade pretty significantly. Took hours to get it back.
When I told her I wanted to get her her own knife, I laid my personal selection on the bed (Mostly CRKs, Striders & a few nice USA made productions). She said "they're all cheap feeling except for the Sebenzas." I am certain that if I bought her a Seb she would definitely damage it and likely lose it and yours truly would be the one caring for it. I got her a Leatherman Sidekick and she loves it. Funny thing is i would have given her my ParaMilitary2 if she showed interest. We'll see if she graduates to a Sebenza.

Oh yeah...I almost forgot the point of the thread. Get your Sweetie a Spyderco ParaMilitary 2!

If you have a knife store nearby its good to take her there and let her select the knife shes most comfortable with. That way she will be more likely to have it on her person should the need arise. My girlfriend carries a Spyderco salt because she can clip it to the tiny pockets on her pants, that way its readily accessible should she need it and not buried in her purse. The first knife I bought her was an purple Endura because I thought shed like the colour and it was a big knife which made me feel comfortable, she hardly ever carried it so it defeated the purpose entirely. I got lucky because she liked the salt I had so much but if I had taken her to a knife shop I could've saved some time and money

@marcinek: already checked it bro; wanted to add my own specifications.

@theeffman: thanks! I'll take her to a store, see what she likes! :3

Probably a paramilitary 2 or salt, as suggested by those who contributed

Is your case, for you girlfriend knife boker ou RAT 1 is goods options..

Would anyone like to weigh in on whether or not they would consider the spyderco salt as tactical or self defensive worthy knife?

I gave my wife my new composite blade leek and she lost it by the end of the day

Start with a cheap knife and see what happens.

Pros:
Light
Easy to grip
It's a knife

Cons:
Plastic handle, No liners
Not the easiest knife to open under stress

The main selling point of the Salt series is that they are extremely rust resistant, to the point of being classified as 100% rust-proof.
The steel on my Pacific Salt seems pretty hard and I did cut down a 2 in. diameter tree by batoning it with no damage to the knife except a bit of the black coating faded
