Knife for Grandaughter

At Balde '05 I bought an A.G. Russell Premium Scout Knife in stag and put it away for my grandson, who was 1 year old at the time.

Now I have a four month old grandaughter, as well. I want to get her a knife, a folder. I want it to be a "pretty" knife of high quality steel and design, "girly" in appearance. I am willing to put $100 bucks or a little more it it. Non-assisted opening and a non-tactical look are musts, also. An engraveable surface would be a plus.

Any ideas?

A Benchmade Griptilian in Pink that they just came out with might be one to look at, but that might stretch the "non-tactical" a little. The design is sorta modern tactical, but the pink handles kinda down play that.

Quality knife and steel though.

First, congratulations....

I have two girls ( now in their late teens) but growing up they seemed to be most attracted to SAKS, I gave one to my older daughter when she was in HS, but she was afraid to carry it.

She' s now in college , but a few weeks ago she was cleaning out her pocket book and I was surprised to see a small collection of cheap saks she had accumulated. I know Victorinox makes pink handled SAKS.

Also Kershaw has a few models that come in colors for girls.

I don't know why whenever the topic of knives for women/girls comes up, everybody says "pink."

Fellas....not all girls/women like pink!!! My wife, for one, hates it. She's got knives...none pink (a stainless streel Spyderco and a stag slipjoint). She also tried to steal my Golden Root S&M peanut.

How about something in pearl or abalone? Queen makes a line of slipjoints in both (plus a line of Sheffield jigged pearl, which is also very nice).

Heck, she might grow up to be a fan of the outdoors and wish SHE had that scout knife.

This is a stretch because of the "high quality steel" part. But Case makes a "Bubble Gum" pink line that is very pretty and of nice design. Every one I've given as a gift has been well recieved.

The steel is o.k. .

If you were giving her this knife right now, I'd suggest taking a look at her choice of accessories (specifically sunglasses, watch, and purse) and finding something that matched. Most women I know don't own any pink items in those areas, and that powder pink Griptillian might be too girly for anyone over the age of 10. Of course, you don't know what you're granddaughter's sense of style is going to be, so something timeless would be best (and black goes with everything!)

What does a 4 month old girl need a knife for?

lol, ya gotta start them off young...Its good that when she is like 5 or 6 she will already havea little colection...

I say get her a "my 1st opinel" its uber cheap and has a rounded/blunt tip...Or a my 1st sak, same deal, blunted tip, so at least she won;t stab herself on accidetn once shes old enough to start using it...

Wait a sec, I got it, she really needs one of these!!!!!! Only like $7...

Get her a Dogfather, she'll grow into it.:D

IMO--Don't get her a 'girly' knife, to me they always look funny. There are lots of elegant knives about in beautiful materials. Look under 'gentleman's folder'.
This is one of my favourite knives, it's not in your price range but I can easily see a 'woman' or a 'lady' using it.

i don't think you should buy a pink girlie knife.

I have a granddaughter who is in her early teens now, and she would hate such a knife. Growing up in a family that likes to fish, canoe/kayak, hike and camp, she usually carries a sak in the pocket of her jeans. A Victorinox recruit. She also collects victorinox classics in all the colors to wear on a silver chain.

I don't know why people insist on pink for girls.

My girl is still to young to carry and use a knife. But..........I already have a substantial amount of knives for her........:D

When her mother thinks she's old enough to have a knife (:D ):
Victorinox "my first knife" (with rounded point)
Eka H8 (Bubinga wood)
BRKT Woodland (Blue G10 handle)
BRKT Mini Skinner Black micarta
Spyderco Delica PE with black FRN
Byrd Robin SS

When she grows up:
BRKT Copperhead Blaze orange G10
BRKT Nebula with a choice of Blue or Blaze Orange G10
BRKT Gameskeeper in several options
Spyderco Endura PE Black FRN
Wide choice of Victorinox (from Camper to Swisschamp)
Eka W11

When she's a grown up:
Ranger RD6 and 7
Swamprat Camp Tramp
Spyderco Manix
Spyderco Military

No I'm not spoiling her.......just make sure "it" keeps in the family.....:D

How about a swiss army knife? It'll probably get lost or confiscated at school or something. Seems like a more innocuous knife, multi purpose and replaceable knife would be ideal.
