I been looking for a small knife for my mother, she is an avid bike rider (not motorcycles but like racing bikes tour de france style) and she doesnt own a knife at all let alone one that can be used for everythign that she does. Looking to spend about 50-60$ on it. She is not realy one of those people who knows much about knives but i would like to get her something decent that she wont easly break like she did to my first Case Stockman.

Specs that Im looking for:

Blade Style: nothing that looks tactical at all this means no thumbholes ect. She will refuse to carry it. Must be a sub 3in blade ideal is like 2.75in

Handle: prefferably something that will be very durable and light she will be carrying this in her biking jersy while riding. Also something that is pastel or colorful.

I was thinking of a chive or scalion from kershaw but she is worried about legality of the kershaw deployment system tried to explain its legal but she says no. So ya any help would be nice thank agin guys.

Get a pliers-based multitool, it's going to be much more useful to do odds and ends on a bike. How about Leatherman Skeletool or Skeletool CX? If you look around you can get it for $50-$60.

A yellow Salt 1. I know how sweaty I used to get and this knife is impossible to make rust. The steel is also fairly tough. It is a Delica pattern which has a hole but doesn't look tactical to me.

If that won't work then do you think it has to be an older more classic design?

would she consider a fixed blade like the izula? I know they make the mini griptilian in a bunch of colors. Maybe the kershaw skyline, zing or od1?

I am an avid mountain biker, I always like to have my delica 4 clipped to my pocket. i usually carry my bike tool and leatherman wave in my bag. I taken a couple of spills and I like the fact that my delica was so thin that it did not bruise me when I landed on it.

The new ffg delica comes in a variety of handle colours and blade it self is less than 3 inches.

A sak like the original alox soldier provides a lot of useful tools in a thin profile. If she broke your stockman, she was probably prying something. The flat screwdriver blade is ideal for this.

Delica 4 full flat grind, five vibrant colors, very light. $50-$60. I don't see how a thumbhole would make a knife look tactical.

She most certainly would not carry a fixblade. I asked her about the thumbhole and she says that she wouldnt mind it much as long as its not a knife like the tanto or another agressive blade. She already has a bike tool she carries in her pack.

In that case either Spyderco Delica or Benchmade Mini Griptilian.

Sure makes them look ugly, though.

Sounds to me like she's in need of a sodbuster jr, small, light, strong, bright yellow, inoffensive, and inexpensive. Case, Queen, German Eye are all great ones. Kissing Cranes, Rough Riders, and Boker Plus are all great values.

A multi tool is a good suggestion, but I doubt you could get her to carry one.

a small spyderco the come in many different colors, with the spyde hole, which doesnt look too "tactical" but you can still open it with one hand. also spydercos are light you should look around maybe a dragonfly or something

Salt 1, Delica in bright color, Mini-Grip in bright colors. Perhaps the pink Native or the Etched Dragonfly?

There's the pink Manix 2 but I doubt the color alone can make it less "scary" :)

My wife and daughter both love the little Spyderco Spin I gave them. I believe the exact words were "it's almost too cute to be a real knife". :D They clip them to the inside of their purse and carry them everywhere they go.

Sounds like your looking for either a SAK or leatherman, nothing "tactical" about them and more useful than a plain knife unless she plans to heavily be using the blade.

the following come to mind:
1: Fallkniven U2.
2: Leatherman or similar pliers based multitool
3: SAK (ALWAYS a good choice)

Sounds like a perfect situation for a Victorinox SAK. I usually recommend the Farmer for men, but women seem to like the tweezers in the plastic handled variety, and a SAK with scissors usually makes the women fall flat out in love with them. that being said I would recommend this little guy here. it has a Large blade, Scissors, Hook, Bottle opener with can opener, wire stripper and large screwdriver, Mini screwdriver, Corkscrew, Straight pin, Ball point pen, Tweezers, Key ring, and Toothpick. all in a slim and light package. You can find them online for about $24. If you want to get her something that will be really useful to take along on her bike (or anywhere else for that matter), check out the "Victorinox Swisstool Spirit X." most useful tool I've ever owned, with a little creativity it's like a toolbox in your pocket. MacGyver eat your heart out.

Like i said she has a bike tool that is specificly designed for most of the bike parts it has pliers as well on it. The thing that she lacks alot is a blade of any sort, so im kind of looking for a realy realy light weight knife that will still be able to do some of the work she might need while out there. I realy like the looks of the delica and am looking at it but im still uncertain that she will like it. The spin is a little small i think at least. And the Salt's blade is kinda big. Just to be clear though when I showed her my spyderco tenacious she thought it looked to tactical lol.

This might do...REI special, Benchmade 530-901 with stonewashed S30V blade, weighs 1.8 OZ. Here's pics:
