Supp guys. I'm a newbie here and was just wondering do you's have any good suggestions for a folding knife for me to get for my girlfriend? Kinda looking for something with a metal handle (stainless/titanium ect.) but not carbon fiber, zytel or ant sort of plastic. Something along the lines of a gents knife. Any good suggestions?

My suggestions:

- Microtech UDT 2000 (gave my wife a red one and she loves it)
- Kershaw Chive or Scallion
- BM 330, 350 or 850

Welcome to BF.

A Stainless spyderco Delica maybe?

Or a nice Microtech L-UDT. If you want a folder (sort of anyway) that´s very good looking (haven´t had the chance to handle one, yet) there is the Red Devil Dalton ASP. Might even be called cute. Red handle and all...

Hmm. I can think of several:

Benchmade 450 Park Avenue
Spyderco Calypso Jr II
Kershaw Chive
Spyderco Navigator (Aluminium handle)
Spyderco Delica II
Outdoor Edge Paragee
Camillus EDC

If your wife doesn't want to deal with sharpening her knife, you could take a look at the Tigersharp Neon. They come with anodised aluminium handles with 2 replacable blades made of Gin5 (61Rc) 3 inches in length and come in royal blue or red, or silver (Helium model). Or, if you want a really classy gent knife, check out the William Henry Evolution series.

Hey thanks for the suggestions guys. I've looked into them all and i particularly like the BM 350 and the Camillus EDC. I'd like to hear more so keep postin.

Hi chris, the Camillus/Ralph EDC is a great knife. You can get it in either Talonite (pricey), 154CM or 420HC. The Outdoor Edge Paragee is also a Darrel Ralph design, very similar to the EDC but with AUS-8 steel.

Hey el cid thanks for the help ay but i have a question to ask. I have quite a few knives but i never really paid attention to what kind of steel the blades were made from and if i did i didnt relly have a clue whether that was good or bad. Whats a strong steel and whats a weak steel? And whats a strong steel i should look for that is affordable for my next buy?

The steel question is an endless issue of debate. Most of the knives mentioned come with a high quality steel and good quality heat treatment. I won't even get started on anything more specific.

One knife not mentioned that has a nice design is the CRKT S-2, and it is relatively affordable. It is currently available in small and medium sizes. Steel is ATS-34 and it is a frame lock. It is one of if not the least expensive titanium handle knives you will find.

The only caveat on this knife is that the handle is milled with grooves, so if you were planning on doing some engraving, you might want to make sure that your engraving will fit.

I agree with Architect. There are many good steels out there and there will always be an endless debate on steels and heat treatment and as to which is better, so it depends on the user as to which steel suits his or her needs. From plain carbon steel to rust resistant (stainless) steel, you have alot to choose from. Some knife "elitists" will look down on 440A, AUS-6, 420HC but there are many good quality knives with blades made from these steels and they're moderately priced.

As far as factory brands go, there are many qualiy knives produced by companies with great reputations. Stay away from cheap flea market knives and ripoffs.

Again, it's all up to you as far as which steel suits your needs. Do some research and also invest in a quality sharpening device to practice your honing skills and you won't be disappointed.

2 very good choices come to mind:

Spyderco Native II.
Camillus Cuda EDC.

My wife loves her Spyderco Dragonfly! It fits small hands well and is available with stainless handles. Going a step larger I would agree with El Cid and others about the Camillus EDC. It is a great knife for the money and can be had in several blade options. My fave is the talonite but you could buy 2 of the 154cm models for the same money!

I'll venture a suggestion...

How about the Benchmade 940? Nice color-anodized aluminum handle, cool blade shape, fun Axis lock...

Otherwise I'd choose a spydie. (gosh I love those...)
