For a little while now I have been wanting to send a knife to Mr. Krein and have it turned into a super slicer. Since I do not have anything that I really want regroud, I think I will buy something. I wanted to see what you all think would be a good choice.

Criteria: I want to keep it under $100 and around 2.5". I was thinking either a mini grip or something from Spyderco. You thoughts?

Thanks,

Adam

Hi gafirefighter -

Since you are going to have the knife reground, my thought would be to pick up a used example from the exchange, since it will not matter what the condition of the blade is (to a certain extent), and you would save money over buying a new knife to refurbish.

I recently sent my old Emerson CQC7 to Phillip Dobson to be reground and have new scales made. The knife was a real beater, the scales were dinged up and the blade was showing wear, now it is a " Sunday go to meetin' " knife!

Good luck and best regards -

Go for something whose handles you like basically. If I were you I'd spring for a Manix2 or a Delica in ZDP.

It depends on your sharpening ability. If it were me I would opt for a ZDP Delica, ZDP cally 3, or possibly something in M4 like a Ritter or Gayle Bradley. I have thought many times about buying a standard Manix 2 and getting it Krein'd into a FFG.

I was really thinking about the manix, but I am not sure yet. Lots of great ideas.

Possibly pick up a JYD II Ti SG2 Kershaw Blem, and then get a high hollow grind. (although my JYD II Ti came sharper than heck NIB)

Or, a Folding Sting from A. G. Russell. You can find a "second" in spear point for about 70$.

A ZDP Spyderco Sprint run in any of the flavors would be great, as well.

I agree that the Used option is a good way to go.

I had my Kershaw Titanium Blue Bump reground, and Tom did an excellent job on it. You will not be disappointed.

You could always spend around $50 on a FFG Delica.

If your going to get something reground because the guy does a great job at his grinds then I would want a blade made of a steal that would hold that grind for a very long time. If he regrinds a Stainless blade for you then it wont last very long but if you get him to regrind something in 1095 or what I would use D2 then you would be getting your money's worth.

I have only recently heard of these knives but get a 60 dollar Queens Cutlery drop point fix blade and then your grind will last longer.

I am not into folders so I am kind of ignorant of that stuff.
Might want to read up on some stainless 'steels' like zdp, or s30v or cpm 154...
