Im looking for a good knife for a tactical vest. Dont need to bother trying to hide it so Size isn't an issue outside of the fact that it will probably be on the webbing next to some mag pouches probably under my arm. I dont want it in the way but want to be able to get to it should i need to. Has to be a good knife, able to be hung upside down, cut through all kinds of stuff and yet be able to hold a good "fighting" edge. Any thoughts?

My first thought would be some kind of Strider. There are a plethora of models available and I'm sure one of them would suit your needs. Maybe you should give a price range to help narrow down your search.

$250-300 would be about what i want. If i need to go more to get a better knife i will. It could be used very little or abused like my every day folder. never can tell.

I'll second the nomination for Strider! (www.striderknives.com), especially if you are leaning toward "utility"...if you are looking for more of a "fighter" (and you are willing to spend $350-$400), then I'd recommend a small Mad Dog ( http://www.mdenterprise.com/knives.htm ) such as the Pygmy pictured below.

if you want thick go to a cs recon scout it will NOT fail.
if you want thin a cs peacekeeper 1 in carbon v will do what its ment to in a hurry:D

There is currently for sale by a ChipC, on Knifeforums I believe, a Busse Zero Tolerance Natural Outlaw for $270. This is a fantastic knife, with the unconditional lifetime Busse guarantee. I can't believe it hasn't sold at this price, and it would be mine if I didn't already have two of them.

I suggest a Gerber Yari, but if you want a sharpened pry-bar, the previously mentioned Cold Steel Recon Scout is an excellent choice.

got a gerber yari on there right now but i would like something with a bit more between the blade and handle. I think the yari is going to be my new running knife. Anyone know if they make it in a tonto?

Hayes TAC-1 or Custom TAC. They are both made by a Canadian knife maker and he has developed them with the RCMP ERT team, the OPP TRUE team and the Ottawa Police Services Tactical team.

Working in cooperation with local Police, SWAT and ERT units, Wally has designed and custom built the Hayes TAC-1 and the TAC-Custom. Two incredibly solid pieces of tactical weaponry for professionals. These blades were requested by police professionals whose lives depend on their tools. The resounding success of these custom blades with SWAT and ERT members has convinced Wally to start producing these amazing blades for sale to collectors. Made of high carbon tool steel (O1, .250" thick), they are tempered for long-lasting edges and the flexibility required in the real world. TAC-1 has G-10 scales and TAC-Custom sports Wally's Japanese inspired epoxied wrap(Nylon with Ray skin). Both store easily in a custom made Kydex technical sheath.

TAC-1 - G-10 scales, 5" blade- $295US

TAC-Custom - Braided, epoxied handle, 6"blade - $325US

No, Gerber doesn't make the Yari in a Tanto, but you might want to take a look at the Cold Steel Recon Tanto or their standard Tanto.

Have you considered an Emerson Police Utility knife. I,ve seen local law enforcement wearing one one a vest (tactical sort). It seemed unobtrusive hanging upside down on his chest.

to be honest im starting to lean toward strider. No clue witch one, that is going to take some research but i think putting in the extra buck will give me more of what im looking for. Right now it is a cross between Top knives and Strider. There isn't room on the chest of the vest for a knife so its going kinda under my left arm blade faceing backwords.
