knife for the wife?

Hey Guys, newbie here, love this place!

I want to get my wife a knife to carry for personal protection as well as utility. She works on a college campus and therefore is limited in what she can carry but since she needs to sometimes walk through the trees her protection is important. She currently carries OC but I think a knife would also be a good thing to have at her disposal should she need it.

That being said, I'm looking for input on the following:

1. What's a decent quality, lightweight, low profile folding tactical knife suitable and comfortable for a lady with small hands, that's easy to carry in her [small] pocket?

2. Can anyone recommend any good knife tactical training that we can take together, preferably in the CA area?

My wife rotates this in her carry routine sometimes. Its thin, small and lite as a feather. Very sharp, and useful for all kinds of everyday tasks.

There's always the Benchmade Osborne. Super lightweight and cool looking with the axis lock. Or how about one of the Al Mar lightweight lockbacks. Those are probably more useful in shape than the Osborne.

Oh hell, get her a small Sebenza. Even if she doesn't like it, you'll sure enjoy it!:D

My wife has small hands amd loves her CRKT KFF. It's very, very easy to open.

I know it is not much knife but my wife loves hers! She keeps her keys on it so, when open, she has a blade sticking out of one side of her fist and keys from the other. Also handy for the mail!:D ;) :D

The knife my wife steals, er borrows, the most is my CRKT Stiff Kiss, though she has had her eye on an Applegate Fairbairn covert folder for a while now. The Benchmade 940 was already mentioned, and I will second it as a great choice. I've been carrying mine since April, and I love it.

My wife has her choice of hundreds of folders and she choose the little Gerber AR-300. Her reasons for the choice were. 1. It's pretty,2. It has a deep pocket clip. 3. It is one of the smoothest opening folders for the price.4. She likes the rubber inserts for positive grip.5. It doesn't look like one of those fighing knives you carry. The ladys she shows it too seem to agree with her so check it out.:D

Spyderco Calypso Jr. Lwt? Looks pretty inoffensive to the unintiated, yet is easy to open with the Spydie hole, and that flat ground VG-10 blade is a slicing machine, lightweight, and inexpensive. The lock is simple and works well even if a bit of lint or some such gets in the works.

Masters of Defense Casillas Boggs Ladyhawk.

I have one and my wife liked it so much I bought her one.

For me it's basically a 2.5 finger knife but my wife get's 3.5 on it. It's got about a 2.5" hawkbill that's perfect for slashing and also works well for general cutting. Guys think it's "cool" and women think it's "cute".

It's MOD quality, if you keep you eyes peeled you can pick them up in the forums for under $100, from dealers on the web you'll spend around $130.

Check Michael Dye at www.newgraham.com or Spark, I think they've both got them.

It's a really a nice little knife!

Hey Guys....

I just sent my wife off on a train trip for a few days..

He was packing my SS Harpy clipped to het bra,and a stripped down Benchmande Nimravus Cub tucked into her waistband on a Static line..

It works very well for her,,is small enough for her to use effectively and both are sharp as hell...

Nice little combo I think..Made her feel a whole lot better..

i suggest the crkt urban shark ir the m16 carbon fiber both are light urban shark at 2.4lbs and the m16 at 1.9lbs. very nice feel when both knives are in ur hands. whats more if u think the smallest is to big u always got 2 other sizes to choose fm

After a lot of thought & input I chose the Lagriffe for my wife.
She was restricted to carry any weapons at work and had to travel late nights home on the subway.

The Lagriffe is designed as a defensive weapon & its real low key. As others told me. "Keep in mind it could be turned against her". As an alternative or added tool I'd suggest pepper & high decibel noise maker.

good choice, small, secure and more of a slasher than a stabber in a defense situation.

Is there a chance I can get a knife and just say its for "the wife"? I'de rather not have a wife, but another knife would be nice :D

So on that note, I would probably get "my wife" something like a BM690.

My first recommendation would be the Spyderco Vesuvius with shell inlay. It is quite attractive, not too expensive, and very functional. It has become my wife's EDC.

If she is most comfortable with a small knife I'd recommend the Spyderco Mouse. It really is tiny but it can do jobs you would expect to require something three times that size. The Mouse was the first knife my wife *really* liked.

Finally, if a neck knife is an option take a look at the Emerson La Griffe. You can't beat that grip for small hands and a fixed blade means not having to worry about mechanical failures. What could be simpler than a single piece of steel?

I read the title, and thought this was a trade offer:o

Already been some good suggestions, IMO.
