Knife for the wife?

My wife walks almost everyday around the neighborhood. I recently bought her a Benchmade auto to carry with her in her fanny pack. I am worried that under stress she may fumble the deployment of her blade. So here is my question. I want to get her a good fixed blade with about a 3 to 3.5 inch blade that will fit into her bag but is still easily deploy-able. I am looking at the RAT 3 or something like that. I am just worried that the case may be a bit slow. I may still go with the RAT and get a custom sheath from Rivercity sheaths. Anybody else got any other ideas?

Will this be for just EDC for whatever comes up or are you talking for self defense purposes?

If for just EDC and to just have it handy for whatever, I would recommend the pink Izula, that's if she likes pink of course. or maybe even the tan Izula.

If your talking for self defense I would recommend maybe foam pepper spray or maybe something less lethal. unless you have plans on her learning to knife fight and really know how to handle a knife in a defensive situation. I'm sure you wouldn't want the knife to be taken away and possibly used on her. should that ever happen it would be better she get sprayed and live than stabbed and well you know what.

I wasn't aware that women were less capable of deploying a knife than men! Do their ovaries get in the way? :D

What would you carry? Get her that.

And don't get her something pink. If I got my wife a pink knife she'd stab me with it.

Okay this would be for EDC as well. BTW no marcinek her ovaries don't get in the way. But that is a good one. My point is that men tend to be more alpha and women think if they have they can use it automatically. I was also thinking about the IZULA necker just for walking and allow her to keep carrying the Benchmade for EDC.

Kabar TDI knives, different styles and blade lengths, fanny pouch too.

I picked up one of these for when I run, still haven't pulled it out of the plastic yet, comes with arm straps, very cheap but better then nothing in an emergency.

Pink Izula. Got one for my wife for our 6th wedding anniversary. She loves it! She wrapped it in pink paracord and carries it in her purse. Great choice imo. My wife is quite a girly girl at times as well and she loves it.

Hah, I got my girlfriend a pink knife and she loves it. I see the tip of its handle shyly poking out of her jean pocket every day. She isn't even aware of this whole "EDC" culture, but apparently subscribes to it because she asks me to resharpen that knife pretty regularly. That tells me it gets used on a daily basis!

Never would have happened without the pink, man! Don't underestimate it :p

Seconding (thirding?) the pink Izula / pink cord wrap. Great EDC fixed blade.

I think that unless somebody undertakes a well taught training course as to how to safely use a knife as a self-defense tool, it should not be carried with such intentions. Sure she should by all means carry a blade, but perhaps not as her primary defense. Using a knife on somebody can quickly turn into a very dangerous situation if you don't know what you are doing. Pepper spray on the other hand is much easier to use in an intense encounter such as self-defense against an attacker. Plus it can be actuated from a distance.

She has a Smith 686 .357 with Crimson Trace grips but it's a little hard to hide under her walking outfit's. I think it would be hot though LOL!

The La Griff doesn't work for my fingers, but the missus loves it. And once she gets it out of the sheath, you can't get it off her without getting cut. Great retention. The training curve was really low, just punch, the person getting "punched" has a great chance of getting cut. The Swick fits my hand very well and feels more substantial. My 2 cents.

Since she knows how to use a pistol get her a 5 shot stubby .38

I have no desire to use a knife for self defense...

My better half prefers sambar on her knives! No pink for her.

She does have a Spyderco Karambit. Nasty knife.
