My wife and daughter are getting into camping with me more and going deeper into the wood now since we all have four-wheelers and now I want to get them good knives for camp chores. Mostly kitchen duty for the wife and all around use for the daughter (15 and boys chase her all day long, why she has a fast four-wheeler.
I am thinking of getting wife a BK5 and the girl a BK15. I will remove the coating and polish steel a little and put on nice handles with leather sheath for both but that's a lot of money.

What else is there that are kind of the same kind of grind but come with nice handle material and sheath in the $100 range. I do want it in 1095 for ease of care and all around reliability and nothing too fancy. It will be on their belts doing g 30 thru the woods so nothing extreme

I read your post however I'd still recommend the Ontario HuntPlus. $40.00, comes with a decent sheath and very sharp.

Honestly the bk5 and BK15 are so hard to find I’d probably just opt for the ESEE 6HM and 4HM as BK5/BK15 alternatives, they already come with micarta handles and leather sheaths for similar prices as the now-discontinued Beckers. The Beckers are great knives, just really hard to find now.

Good choice thank you.

ESEE, as previously mentioned. Buck 117 & 119 maybe? Bradford Guardian Series? They just popped into my head, thought I’d share.

I'm a big fan of the canadian hunter by Grohmann for camp/cooking duty. Light, comfy, good slicers, not murdery looking and they come with a choice of steel, blade grind and handle material. Price reasonable too, around 100 buck.

Thanks for posting that. I just ordered a 60th Anniversary “2nd” for under $100CAD (Regular $200). I always wanted a Grohmann (as a Canadian!) and have heard good things about the Model 1. For about $80,you can’t go wrong.

Apologies for the derail.:)
