knife for your wife/girlfriend

Hello, I'm (very) new here, but I guess I have to start somewhere.

I daily carry a kershaw scallion or chive, and my girlfriend is constantly asking to borrow my knife. While I'm happy to oblige, I figured it might be nice to surprise her with her own knife.

I can only imagine that many of you have experienced the same thing (or perhaps have a few of your knives "borrowed") - what did you do?

I'd like to get her something small, plain edged, classy, and I'll try to keep it under $60 or so...

thanks!

How about giving her her own`scallion or chive, since she already likes it? It comes in pink too, but not all girls like it, so ask first.

I recently purchased a PINK Leek for my wife... she has carried an auto for years... The ladies also need to cut things sometimes ... sharks always look for the easy target.

Good luck with that. My wife is CONSTANTLY needing a knife. Have bought her knives, even MADE her knives, and she still, never, carries, her, OWN!

I have asked her many times why she doesn't carry her own, and she sweetly answers; "I don't need to! I can always borrow yours!"

Tough to argue with that logic......

My wife could really use a knife. I have offered here plenty of my knives to just have in her purse incase she needs one. She's always declined.

I think I'm going to just buy a pink Kersahw for her so there are no question at all that it's hers. She always ends up asking to use one of mine...

My wife used to borrow my knives all the time. Little Orange Spyderco Ladybug on her key chain put end to this. This little thing have no problem to open mail, cut cardboard boxes or other packaging. Considering VG10 blade, it is going to stay sharp for a while, weight about nothing, looks good and only $25. A lot of fun for little money (i got one for myself as well).

I bought my wife a Case slimline in damascus and mother of pearl......refused to carry it, too pretty and too expensive. Then I bought her a pink mini grip.......refused to carry it, leaves it in her car in case she needs it there.

I tried for a few years to get my wife interested in carrying a knife, and finally she actually asked for one for her birthday! I got her a Spyderco Kopa in Black Quince. It's about twice what you wanted to spend, but a heck of a little knife. She carries it mostly at work, but I'm chipping away at her trying to get her to carry it the rest of the time. :D

Why, oh why does everyone always assume their wife or gf is gonna want a pink knife?!?

If I got my wife a pink knife she'd probably stab me with it. Any natural material - stag, pearl, abalone, burl - she'd love it.

I guess if your lady wears pink outfits all the time...go pink. Otherwise, think twice about it.

My two cents.

I gave to my wife a Spyderco Ladybug and she promplty got used to carry it and use it, this little blade has a lot of daily action opening packages and boxes.

Once that she was convinced about how useful is to have a good blade at hand, she asked for a Centofante III, a very slim folder and a great slicer which is mostly used for "field food-processing" rather than heavy work, although it can handle bigger tasks for sure.

That been said, I'd also recommend a Spyderco Dragonfly or a Kiwi, these are excellent little blades, sheeple friendly and suitable for little hands (if that's your girl's case).

Regards.

Jaime Orozco.

I had a pink Chive.
Had...
My 20 year old daughter saw it and promptly 'borrowed' it.

I've bought Pink Chive for the friend of mine :)

There is her name engraved, which makes this knife more "personal" :)

I got my old lady a MT UTx70 double edge. I figured a small D/A OTF would work for her since she is scared of getting cut while opening or closing it.

How about a Kershaw Sapphire or Splinter or any of the rainbow chive/leek/scallions?

Indeed she is not the type for pink things. I guess a chive or a ladybug or something similar would be in order.

Thanks, guys.

I usually go for something like the Spyderco Delica, Calypso Jr. ltwt., FRN or etched Dragonfly(last one, and it went over well).
Thinking about getting my girlfriend one of the Kershaw Leeks with the composite D2 blade. Well, I'm thinking about getting me one, too!

Women always reacted positively to my Spyderco Kiwi. It's classy, elegant and very small. You won't find it for $60 but check ebay and you'll find it below $100. The Spyderco dragonfly is similar in overal size and it has the same blade quality (VG10); yet it is cheaper, so it can be an alternative. I have both and actually the Kiwi looks definitely better:

Another option: a compact swiss army knife is useful for both genders. Or, thinking out of the box, why not, a compact Leatherman Juice series multitool, like this one:

2 other alternatives, ok for both men and women, but above your budget:
- a Kyocera ceramic pocket knife. Very elegant and you can get it with mother of pearl-like inlays. I have one with cocobolo wood inlays. It's amazing:

- or -and this is one I will eventually succumb to- A Klötzli gentleman folder:
