As the title states, I need help finding a waterjet service. I've tried the two most prominent ones in the knife world and one has taken two weeks and still no quote and the other doesn't answer email or phone calls it seems.

At any rate, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Mike,

A few months ago I contacted a place in Austin that was very friendly, and told me that they would be happy to waterjet out a series of knives for me. The only problem is, I'm not 100% sure that I remember the place. I'm about 80% sure that this was it.........www.hotmetalworks.com. "Heart of Texas Metalworks" 512.731.6414. You might try them!

I've switched over to CNC Plasma for my needs. Waterjet is nicer, but the cost of the machine realistically precludes small jobs compared to CNC Plasma.

Have you tried contacting Mark Vanderwest with Leading Edge Fabricating, Inc?

I've dealt with him a couple of times in the past, and he has always been quick to return an email. Besides that, his turn around time has always been phenomenal, along with his pricing, compared to several other quotes I've gotten from other WJ cutters.

That was my first choice, but alas, he is one of the two mentioned in the first post. I just didn't want to use anyone's name as to avoid any issues. (I'm still hoping to hear back from him as I'd rather give my business to a forum member than anyone else.)

*** I'm not sure what constitutes a larger order in "their," context but you'd think that an order with parts in the hundreds would at least whet someones appetite. ;)

Do you already have the steel? I ask because Aldo now had a water jet setup.

Forget David at GLWJ.....it will never get done.

Aldo has a machine and they are learning the things required to cut out knife blanks. I spent a bit of time with him this weekend, and he is planning on offering cutting services for his steel. Give him a call.

Hmm, that's surprising. Have you tried calling?
I'd shoot him another email at the very least. He almost always responds within 24 hours for me.

I just got off the phone with Mark, great guy indeed. It turns out that it was just a mix with his email service; which is totally understandable.

Mark at Leading Edge has done me well in the past. He's a good guy and a knife collector. I'd give him another shot.
Emails get lost, or over looked some times.

Yes! I love Aldo..

I'm in south-central Indiana, and there are a few local shops here that do waterjet work. I've asked about cutting blades, and they've been very receptive - but haven't had them do anything yet.

Does anyone have blanks laser cut? I've had thousands of parts laser cut (but no knife blanks...), and the price is much less than waterjet. I would think, for blade blanks anyway, laser is the way to go?

I have used three different water jet shops to do my patterns for me.
I didn't have a great experience with GLWJ ether, TWICE!

I currently will only use Jay at http://www.waterjettech.com in Missouri, Heres what I do since I am in California. And you can do this with most any shop.

I buy my CPM steels from Niagara specialty metals,http://www.nsm-ny.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=page.display&page_id=27 In New York State.

Then I have the sheet of steel shipped to Jay at In Missouri where he has my patterns on file, he cuts them and ships the blacks to me. This has been the most cost effective way with the best quality I have found to date.

Jay is very professional with his work, one time we must of sent 5 proofs back and forth just to make absolutely sure that what he was going to cut was what I wanted! He has no set up fee and only charges for the actual time it took to cut and he didn't charge me to transfer my chicken scratch hand drawings to a CAD file.
He does work for Boeing and Caterpillar just to name a few, Check out his site.
