I just made this knife form an old (very old) saw blade I found on our property. The blade is pitted and I left that texture in the finished blade. The pins and lanyard sleeve are stainless.
The handle is ebony.

I'm no expert but I believe the old saw blades were high carbon steel. The teeth and body are all made out of the same steel. Not sure of the age of this old saw blade but I would guess its 75-10 years old.

Very neat looking. I'm guessing this isn't your first knife? How thick is the blade?

Thanks guys. Over the last year or so I've ground out a few blades with a grinder and sanding belt (didn't really know about heat treating and tempering so they were left as grinded) . When I retired (January this year)I decided to get a 2x72 grinder (around April) and a one burner gas forge (around May). This is a photo of the knives I've made since then. I'm slowly getting the hand of grinding the bevels; if only I could do right to left as comfortable as I can do left to right grinding!

Very nice, so have you tried forging yet with the new one burner forge?

I have not, but I do plan on trying to forge a shaped blade maybe this week. For the size of blades that I have been making I've been very pleased with how the forge works for heat treating, it's a Diamondback forge. My anvil is on the small size, a 50 pounder but a friend of mine has been using a harbor freight of the same size and he is turning out some nicely shaped blades. I went with a Kanca anvil.
Any words of wisdom? I appreciate any and all feedback.

if its old sawmill blades like Southern Grind sources it should be 8270m which has been a very good steel for them since it is high carbon just have to take care of it or it will rust easily.Nice work BTW.
