Hello,
I have seen online some advert for pre heat treated damascus billet.
Example:
The listing is for 1 piece of Damascus Knife Blanks. Already Heat-Treated. Free Shipping!!
Size: 200mm x 30mm x 3mm / 250mm x 35mm x 4mm
Total about 60 layers, the core is VG10.

My question is the following. How would you create a blade from pre heat treated steel. All the knives I have made up to now where with steel which was annealed which I then heat treated.

They are already ground and usually sharpened. Some are better than others. The premade blanks from Alabama Damascus are of serviceable hardness and quality. The price is good.

You can re-sand the blade to a finer finish and re-etch it if you want, or use the already done finish. Youthen finish the blade by adding the handle.

If it's saying the core is VG10, then it's likely just soft damascus cladding or san mai construction. If you don't want to re-HT, then you'd want to cut and grind it without heating it above a temperature where you'll soften the hardened core steel.

Yes, this is what it is, a San Mai billet. How would you cut it? Also what about how to drill hardened steel?

Not a blank. A billet.

Can you post a link to the billet you are talking about. I think that would clear things up a bit and help us help you.

yes.
I didn't want to post a link to it in case posting links to commercial site was against the forum's policy
