First and foremost, thank you in advance for your help and advice in this matter. While I am not a member of the knife forum community, I am pretty active in the car forum community so I understand the comradely and forum life as some may put it.

So I am here for advice, my father who recently passed was a huge knife enthusiast. I never followed his love, so when he passed, I was left with a few items that I have no want or need to keep. The first step in this journey is to understand what I don’t know own and what its value actually is. This is the reason I am reaching out to this community is, you all are experts in this field and I hope to learn from you and even go in the direction that you may send me in if I decide to sell this knife.

I know it was a knife once owned by a member of the Mexican army during the battle of San Jacinto. That is of course based upon the note that is pictured below. I know my father was very proud of this knife, as it was once my grandfather’s.

Any insights, knowledge, direction to investigate or pricing would be a huge help.

You're not allowed to directly ask for the value of your knife on this forum. Do you have any more info on the origin of the letter? with just the letter alone i don't think you could prove the knife was truly in the battle but it's a cool story. I don't know much about the values of old knives but if the handle is real ivory and not bone or synthetic it's certainly worth something.

I am not trying to break any forum rules, so I apologize about asking for a value. Please dis-reguard that request.

to answer your question, no I do not have any other documentation. What I have pictured is everything I have.

the handle is very heavy.... a little suprising when I picked it up. I am not sure what the exact material is. I have a good guess based upon other items I have found with it but I have no idea how to prove it one way or another.
