Knife gets rough

Hey guys. My sebenza has been getting smoother pivot wise but my detent ball or track keeps gettin rough. If I sit there and open and close it after a short while it gets rough like small gritt sandy. I fold a piece of paper and stick it between the lock bar face to clean the track and it smooths out, until it gets opener multiple times again. Anyone else experience this?

That happens on most of my liner/frame-lock knives unless I lube the track and ball. I've recently had good longevity with dry lubes on those locations. It's not as silky smooth as an oil, but it seems to stay a consistent smoothness for longer.

^^ + 1 on this. However it should not feel sandy. If I carry my knives in my pocket I keep them in a pouch to keep the dirt out of the pivot region.

My Umnum did this as well, thought of sending it into CRK to have it checked, but it turned out I just needed to use grease over tuf-glide.

Try a cleanup with some grease or CRK lube and report back. :D

I've cleaned and greased where the ball rides, that seems to attract more dirt. I don't know. I wouldn't say it's a knife issue if it gets remedied by paper cleaning it.

A bunch of mine do this, and I have no idea as to why. When I take down a particular knife, I do lube the detent ball track.

Compressed air should do the trick.
Oil attracts dirt, so it should be used sparingly.
I keep a small paint-brush within reach, so i can clean it once in a while.
hope this helps.

Just wanted to update. I took the knife apart today to see if I could fit some orange paracord as a lanyard, but when I ties it up it was too thin so I went back to the melted cord in the lanyard tube. Anyways, I took the knife apart and thoroughly cleaned it. Detent ball, around the ball and all other parts. This time however, I polished the washers well with some NOXON metal polish, then thoroughly cleaned the washer and inside the perforations. Reassembled as usual and the knife feels totally different. Also, normally after 10 quick back and forth openings, the knife feels like metal on metal pitting/galling, but now it's a nice smooth fluid (literally) movement. Very nice, never felt it before. I believe the washers being as tarnished as they were, would spin after opening and closing multiple times, turning into a certain area causing the gritty feeling. Hopefully problem solved!
