I'm making a 7" bowie thats heading to Iraq probably next week, did you guys that made knives to head that direction put your marks on them. it seems like I read something on here that marking your knives wasn't recommended, what have all you makers done, Mark or no mark.

Thank you,

Bill

A lot of makers who are giving knives away do not want any credit and that is modist. If you sold it mark it any thing else is up to you..

Pardon me for jumpin in on this one but it doesn't make sense to me to put a knife out there, freebie or otherwise without your mark on it.
The soldier carrying it knows where it came from.
Years down the road when they're looking at the knife or showing it to thier grand kids and see your mark on it, you think that's not gonna make them proud and choke em up some?
I say put your mark on it!

I can't see any reason not to put yer mark on. Even if it's going to a spec-ops guy, what's the difference? jmo bruce

Bill....I would say that if the knife is going to a regular trooper then mark it. The whole "sterile" thing was more or less a product of the Cold War era where plausible deniability was crucial. You didnt want to get caught where you were not supposed to be have your equipment tied right back to the good old USA....it had the potential to create an international incident.

I don't know if we have guys running around in Syria, Iran, etc....if so....maybe those guys need sterile equipment....maybe....but your knife will be around long after this war and maybe a few more, God fordid, so I would say leave your mark on it.

I marked mine and gave them contact info so they could let me know how they were holding up.

What Greg said --

You make some of the most "mark-worthy" blades, so I say do it. The owner will be proud to have it on there.

are you guys sending knives to specific people over there? or just donating them "to the cause"?

I don't understand how it works...

I have probably 5 knives in Afghanistan and Iraq, at least a couple in the SOCOM community. Glad to have my mark on them. If Ali Babah can trace it back to me, good, bring it on.
