Hey guys, i finally graduated high school and my parents want to buy me a nice knife for a grad present because ive been a knife nut all my life. I love benchmade, kabar, becker, ZT etc. anyways they told me to find a knife for $200ish and im not really sure what i want. Im kinda leaning toward a fixed blade but i wouldnt mind a nice folder. Also im not looking for anything super tactical. Any suggestions would be great thanks guys :)

I'd look into finding a Spyderco PM2 sprint in the dark green/CTS 204p for a folder. There are just so many options for fixed, but I'm pretty happy with my Benchmade 162 as an all purpose camp knife. Are you going to college? If so, you may want to consider something that isn't too threatening looking. Let us know your parameters and we can give you better ideas.

Congrats on graduating!

I'll second the PM2 if you don't have one, or look into some of the higher end BM knives. For that kind if money though, you could grab a couple of nice blades. ESEE Izula, KA-Bar TDI, Beckers. Lots of options.

Since you're leaning towards fixed blades, might take a look at a custom knife maker here on the forums.

I start college in the fall so for a folder im looking at a 3 to 3.5 inch blade. For a fixed blade im looking for somthing that looks good but is functional, if that makes sense?

Congrats on graduating, where are you going to college if you don't mind my asking?

Well at $200 you could get a PM2 or Manix 2 for a folder and get a nice fixed blade like a Becker or ESEE. Or, as has been suggested, get a custom fixed blade from one of the makers here on the forum.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the Para2's ~~ or a BK2 and a Spyderco Delica and have the best of both worlds.!*
Of course that is just my opinion and we all have one.*
Good to see you are going on to College as that is always good to have so that you can make more money to buy Knives with.!! lol

I'm really digging my spyderco native 5 lately with s35vn. Great little pocket knife and sharp as all heck.

Well unfortunatly it seems almost impossible to find a paramilitary 2 at the moment ha any other suggestions?

I did get the chance to handle one at cabelas a few months ago. I wish i woulda grabbed it when i had the chance!

I don't know if you are thinking appropriate knife relative to college. But it might be a consideration. I like the Spydie Native 5. They have gotten a lot more expensive since when you could buy them at Walmart.

A ZT 0770CF might be a consideration. I really like this knife.

Spyderco Domino can be had for around $200 ish. It's damn near perfect in every way.

I would suggest a Spyderco TECHNO. It is short, but heavy-duty. It has great blade-steel. You'll want something like this that won't break easily...for some of the stuff you'll be cutting for your classes. You can buy it easily in the $150-range. Titanium handle and great blade-steel of CTS-XHP.

Get a Spyderco Millitary, I just picked one up and I am in love with it. Has been in my pocket since the day I picked it up, it knocked out my Houge EX01. It has become one of my favorite knives. Then get yourself a Spyderco PM2 when you can fgind one. I saw a couple on the exchange, not sure if they are still there.
