Where do they sellused belt grinders on this site how do u find the for sale and can i participate without gold status

I would suggest the knifemakers for sale area in gadgets and gear maybe. I don’t see grinders often. You can buy without gold, you just can’t sell.
ETA knifemaking tools section is under knife makers for sale area

The grinders that come up in the Marketplace are often quite pricey, even though used. A good compromise is to just get a belt sander from your local big box hardware store, it will still move steel for you and it's easy to keep feeding it locally sourced belts. Harbor Freight has a little 1x30" inch that seems to have been the gateway sander for a number of makers who post. They upgrade when economically feasible, but it's a good way to experiment. Don't cheap out on a respirator though, breathing is nice and you don't want to sound like Tom Waites on "Rain Dogs."

Basically you've gotta get lucky. Let as many knifemakers know you're in the market for one. That way when they sell they'll think of you and it'll be a win-win for both parties.

Mind you. Even secondhand grinders will not be cheap.

And you can participate on the forum just fine without Gold status. Paid membership does have it's bonuses though and does help keep the site running.

Thank you for the advice i hate to spend money on a junk one then only to have to fork out more when i upgrade but ill consider it

You can get a 1x30 that will let you experiment for under $50, I used some free money I had from Sears and got a $75 1x30 WEN grinder for $52 and I have used it extensively and it can make knives, also great for reprofiling and sharpening too. I just posted this on another thread, Grainger has a Dayton 2x42 for $138, both would make great starter grinders.
