Knife Groups???

This is an honest question, no ill intentions here, but what is the purpose of all these groups and affiliations with knife and knife related brands?

I am referring to the Hinderer Herd, Emersonaholic, Anso Addict, Striderholic, Monkey Nation, etc....

Some signature lines are just mobbed with all these member #'s and giant logos and I guess I just don't understand what it is all about. More so on some other forums than here, but I was just curious what this is all about?

Depends on the people some (not on here) join one and say brand "X" is the best all others are junk some join a group because the just want to show some love for a company and there's many others views on it

The groups on here are some of the better mannered people (iv never had a bad experience......)

But over all it still depends on the people and there mind set....and I must agree with sal glesser:

This is a sensitive subject, so I would appreciate your patience and understanding.

The hostility that seems to appear on the forum makes it an uncomfortable place to be. This is opposite the intention.

Much of the hostility seems to be centered around the "round hole issue".

After listening to comments, discussion and much thought (which requires time becausae I'm sometimes slow), I have a request.

I am asking you to pull any tag lines or comments that could be percerived as hostile or antagonistic to other companies in the knife industry, while on our forums.

I realize that to many, it is an important issue, and I will admit to being sensitive myself, but a negative approach is not good for the industry or Spyderco in the industry.

Intelligent, civil communication is more valuable.

We have always tried to "leave shiny footprints" where ever we go. I personally have tried to avoid negative comments towards other companies. (No, I'm not perfect either :o ) I think it serves to keep thoughts about Spyderco and other companies more positive than negative.

If you would like to be closely associated with Spyderco, which we greatly appreciate, it would be our wish that you consider leaving shiny footprints rather than hostile feelings, whjere Spyderco is concerened.

thanx much for your cooperation and kind understanding.

sal

This is a sticky at the top of the spyderco sub forum.

Thanks for the explanation. Makes sense. I was just not sure if these were actually membership type groups or just a way of showing your "love" of the brand. Some people seem to take these pretty seriously...

I should start a group:

Knife Whores.

Who wants in? :D

(I'm a true knife whore as I lack loyalty to any brand :))

Well yes there membership groups just not paying the group me fcm415 and bladechick777 started (spydernation) is pretty easy to get into you just have to have:
1. Read this first:http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/sh...erco-fan-group"]http://http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1030756-Spyderco-fan-group"]http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/sh...erco-fan-group
2. Reserve your post slot. Everything you will need to do should only be on this one post.
3. State that you have read Introduction thread in its entirety on your post.
4. State your combined post total between the Spyderco sub-forum, and the Spyderco.com forum.
5. Share a picture of your Spyderco knife/knives
6. Request your number. You may request to have a number reserved but you must complete requirements in a reasonable amount of time.
7. If you request an exception for requirement #2, do so and PM/email me with your case.
8. Once you are cleared, you get a welcome post.

The rules are just meant to keep people that don't contribute to the forum out.

But Yes they can take them kinda take em a lil to seriously...

Other than getting in on "member only" giveaways, I see no point to them whatsoever.

I think the ones on here are just to show loyalt to a company. Not the type of loyalty where you buy only that brand or you are delusional enough to think they are the only ones that make good knives but just to say you generally think it's a good company and probably your favorite.

There are some official Collector Clubs out there though, like the Case and Buck clubs.

Seems like your membership actually requires some contribution to join. Most of the membership join threads I have seen are just a bunch of people asking for a specific number and then there in. This is why I was confused because other than displaying your number in your signature line, what is the point???

Thanks for the replies.

To me it just seems like a way to identify with the gear you like.
Instead of running around a forum posting "I love my Hinderer XM-18!", for example, you just identify with the 'Hinderer Herd' and everyone already knows.

I don't necessarily view it as pointless, but I can agree that signatures get a bit unruly once you're in 600 groups. lol
I think there should be a way to move that stuff away from the signature area and make it a part of your profile page. So if someone clicks your profile, they can see all of your groups.

You mean like the lil box on the bottom left corner that says "groups"?

lol...well yeah, exactly like that :foot:
I guess what I was trying to say though is that it should be the ONLY way to display your groups. Keep the signatures area cleaner.
