Knife/gun stores in Baltimore or off I95?

I have to make a trip to John Hopkins in Baltimore. I was wondering if there were any knife or gun stores worth stopping by. Any restaurants or other places to pass the time at would be good to know about.

I am driving up there from Florida so any knife stores that are not too far from I95 would be good to know about as well.

Thanks,

Ryan

The area around JHH can be dangerous, especially after dark. I worked the police district it is in for years. During daylight, the large number of employees, security and city police keep the area pretty safe. No restaurants in the immediate area I would recommend. If you are driving, a short trip will give you several choices. The 4900 block of Eastern Ave has several good Greek restaurants. JHH is in the 600 blk of N. Broadway. A trip to S. Broadway takes you into the heart of the hispanic area of B'more. Many good restaurants there. Harborplace is nice to visit, but restaurants there are overpriced. Fell's Point is a restaurant/bar area and is in the 600 blk. of S. Broadway. Lots sof eateries and taverns there. A very nice but pricey place in Fell's Point is Pierpoint, in the 2000 blk of Aliceanna St. Another high end Fell's Point restaurants is Callies Corner

Gun shops in Baltimore City are non existent. The only one until recently was Baltimore Gunsmith in the 200 blk. S. Broadway. ATF pulled their FFL for too many alleged irregularities. There are actually three gun shops within a couple of miles north of the city. I don't have the actual addresses, but the stores are Valley Gun, Walters Gun Shop and Christian Soldier. They are all on Harford Rd., south of the Baltimore Beltway (I-695, which does run right off of I-95). I'd guess 7000 - 8000 Blks of Harford Rd. Maryland is NOT gun-friendly. No out of state permits are acknowledged. Keep your eyes open and you'll be fine. An Orioles' game would be nice to see as Camden Yards is right downtown and a marvel.

i haven't been there since 2001 but here's a shot....

try the paper moon diner on w29th right near Wyman park on the south side of homewood campus. open 24-7 and a fav for late night fare. morton's downtown near harborpark. cheesecake factory in harborpark. The charles village pub on st paul near and 33rd is right off campus and one of my old haunts. the pubburger is an old fav and so are the ribs. If you see a donna's coffe shop, get a cup. they'll beat starbucks any day.

they had a cheaspeake knife and tool at harborpark. guess it's defunct now.

baltimore gunsmith was the better shop around bmore. too bad they had such a horrible rep within the city. i got a usp tactical off them and had some custom work done. nice guys too. i wouldn't try any other gun shops north of the city. there's one range up there where the guys are jerks.

if you're up on 95 though, on the way up, there's a place off 95 and on 175 called On Target. It's an indoor range/gun store. It's been years since i've been there, but basically you go east on 175 off 95 , past 295 and when you see a shoppng plaza on the left with a Popeye's in it, there's on target. not a great knife collection but i got my 228 there. nice guys. no complaints.
there's a place near glen burnie too. i'd just go to on target though.

don't forget the national aquarium and camden yards. other than that, near jhu, you won't get much in the way of shopping or night life. it's mostly college residential.

There is a Bass Pro shop off of Rt 100 south of Baltimore. Not great knifes but worth the trip. There is a knife shop in the Arundel Mills mall (where Bass Pro is).
If you like Italian, try little Italy between JHH and the inner harbor (Chipparellis is great).
Good clubs in Canton too. Try Loonies for some good wings and draft. The movie Ladder 49 was filmed there. Have fun.

I live in Baltimore, and it's a great city for food, baseball, fishing, and deer hunting- but not knives... Bass Pro Shops is only 20 minutes from downtown, and worth a trip just to see it. Then go back to town and get yourself a seat at the bar at any of the great brew pubs (e.g. DeGroens, Clipper City, Brewers Art, etc. etc) and think about what kind of knife to order from the Internet...

Do be careful where you wander after dark if you are alone. Like any big city, you can easily end up getting mugged.

Only one left; Christian Soilder. Valley Gun had their license pulled by ATF several months ago for gun accounting infractions - still open for black powder, accessories and etc. Walter's Gun Galley went out of business around the first of the year.

Maryland, especially Baltimore City, is tough gun wise; except for the thugs - they all have 'em.
