I am a new knife maker that is starting from scratch. I have a blade with pre drilled 5mm (.196 inches) holes in the tang and a set of wood scales. I want to use corby bolts to attatch the scales. My question is that I can't find corby bolts in this size. The closest I have found are .187 inch corby bolts. Are these close enough or should I re-drill the tang to .25 inch holes and use .25 inch corbies?

Welcome to the forums.
This type of question should be asked in "Shop Talk", not around the grinder.
Filling out your profile would be a good thing, too.

The holes through the tang should be a bit larger than the Corby bolt shank size. I usually go 25% larger, so you are actually on the tight side. The ones you listed should work fine. You need a step drill or a counterbore to make the seats for the bolts.

I sent an answer to your email, but would also suggest you try searching for your questions, too. Corby bolt use has been regularly discussed, and I have posted tutorials on how to install a handle with Corby bolts. If the member search function is not working for you, try this search engine:

Filling out your profile will help us know something about you and your abilities, as well as let other makers know where you live. You might have a maker in town, or nearby, who would invite you over to help you learn.
