knife handle repair

have this really old knife that the leather handle completely came apart. just put on the new leather spacers, what do you put on the leather to seal it after i have soaked it in water to make it nice and tight?. not a member of any other forum than this one so that is why the question. not sure what kind of knife it is just an old one i found when i moved into a place in Caddo Parish. it was a great knife to throw and was very true in flight. will try and take some photos of it. looks rough right now and now sure if i want to trim the spacers dlown, they fit my hand pretty good right the way they are.
