I just got back from Pigeon Forge, Tenn. I went to Smoky Mountain Knives while I was there. AWESOME place! Literally thousands of knives. Has anyone else been there?

I looked and compared for 2 hours then my wife pulled me out to go look at the Boyds Bears outlet. I never did make it back to buy the knives I had selected.

thats terrible.2 hours then you have to leave without buying a knife.Thats the stuff nightmares are made of. PJ

That is too funny and sooo true! Married life will do that to "your" shopping.:D I remember standing in front of dressing rooms waiting to see how the next dress looked. But if your happily married, then you're a lucky man. Enjoy! (you'll get your knives at some point)

It was terrible. I had it down to the Endura 4 and the Salt or the Chinook. I thought I would think about it and come back but our schedule didn't allow it.

I live in Kentucky, and we go to the SMKW quite a bit. Youre right, it is a knife heaven. Downstairs there's everything you can imagine for very cheap.

Upstairs is the best. It's like a museum or something. They have like glass cases with military knives, cowboy and gaucho knives, and other knives from all over the world. There's also many displays of Rudy Ruana bowies, Bill Moran knives and alot of Gil hibben originals, and other really famous makers knives. I believe there were some Bob Loveless displays too. There are also many displays from every knife company you can think of up there. The place is just awesome.

So when is the divorce going to be official?

No divorce.:D She walked around there for 2 hours while I looked. I just couldn't make up my mind. The selection is HUGE.

I did not see any Benchmades. Did you?

Now that i think about it....i really dont think I saw any benchmades. i was so overwhelmed by everything else. Almost picked up a Dozier Thorn there. sweet knife. They also had a crate of thousands of those cool swedish bayonets. picked up a few of those at 6 bucks apiece. Deal of the century.

Bass Pro Shops carries an excellent selection of benchmade knives btw.

2 hours eh?, We usually total about 7 hours over 3-4 days when we go down. It's good to hear thay have a selection of Spydies back in.

I think that they got into a p***ing match a couple of years ago with Benchmade (kind of like what we are seeing between NGK and BM right now) and they dropped the line.

I've been there and they had some nice knives but also a lot of junk that looks flashy but is Chinese POS.

You're a lucky man to have a wife you would let you wander in that place for 2 hours. I don't remember seeing too many things that my wife would enjoy looking at.

Next time, give your wife the car and send her down the road to Severville and the huge OUTLET mall. That'll keep her busy all day and on her return, she picks you up.

Just remember the Married Man Adage: All these knives cost just 5 bucks apiece. What a Bargain!. Generally she'll show you all of the shoes, dresses, sweaters, etc which ironically enough, were all on sale for 5 bucks each. At least this has kept my marriage cookin' for 36 years!

I was there a few years ago, before I became disabled, and it was one helluva experience! It's total overload when you walk in! I wish I could go again ... sigh. Its a must stop for any knifenut passing by! :D

I went there once. It is an incredible place, a must see if you're a knife knut and happen to be travelling through that area.

I just came back from the Smokies with my kids...we went to Gatlinburg some...and there were knife shops there and they just had junk. Next time I will check out the Pigeon Forge shops...thanks for that heads up. I was all excited with all the knife shops in Gatlinburg, until I realized the two in my pockets were better than anything the stores had by far...lol. I will check out the other places next time.

I went there too Kestrel64. All of the shops there had POS knives. My Mini Manix riding IWB kept saying lets get out of here.

Aint that a coincidence. My fiance and I just got back on Monday from the Smokeys and on the way back, we stopped in Sevierville. What a store! By the way, we also spent a lot of time in Gatlinburg and visited most of the "knife shops" there. One word...JUNK!

Curiosity yields evolution...satiety yields extinction.

I just went to the Gatlinburg area two weeks ago. Smoky Mountain Knife Works is worth the drive. The whole tourist area is about 23 miles long, with souvenir shop after souvenir shop for a good portion of those miles. There are many knives stores, as well as other types of stores that sell knives. Some of the knife stores are tiny. It's true that most of the stuff is junk, but there are many, many quality knives as well. You can get some great deals. Look for brand names of quality knife makers. If you don't know which brand names are best, educate yourself on the subject.
