Thanks for the compliments guys, I haven't had a chance to test the edge holding of this knife yet, I'm still experimenting with heat treating 1084. It held up to whittling some pine boards without loosing it's shaving edge (won't be any chopping tests with this one!)However I did a batch of several knives at the same time including this one and the others have performed very well so far.
The purple heart does not need to be stabilized and I just coated it with Watco Neutral Danish oil. It actually needs to be worked down a bit and a few more coats added. I like the effect with the brass bolsters, thought it would clash at first. One thing I don't like is the bolsters made this knife heavier than I'm used to (these were my first attempt at bolsters and was pleased the pins disappeared entirely).
