Here is a little knife I made for my wife, blade is 1/8" thick 1084, bolsters are dovetailed brass and the scales are purple heart. (5.5" OA)

Good looking blade! I recently acquired some purple heart, and wondered how it would look.
Did the purple heart wood have to be stabalized?
Once again, Good Job

I like the overall design. The handle has good semetry and the blade looks as though it balances the knife well. Purple heart is something I am looking forward to trying.

Cool knife Guy, they're always really special when they're for someone close :) I'm sure she'll be proud of that one.

I really like your handle design!

i like the way you relived the pinky area on the handle.very user friendly for women.

Guy, you don't make enough knives! That's really nice; I like the handle too, and the blade. That looks emminently useful and decorative all at once. Purple heart and brass are a good combination, aren't they?

Thanks for sharing, but you know my little heart was going pitter-patter when I read the title of this thread... :)

Thanks for the compliments guys, I haven't had a chance to test the edge holding of this knife yet, I'm still experimenting with heat treating 1084. It held up to whittling some pine boards without loosing it's shaving edge (won't be any chopping tests with this one!)However I did a batch of several knives at the same time including this one and the others have performed very well so far.

The purple heart does not need to be stabilized and I just coated it with Watco Neutral Danish oil. It actually needs to be worked down a bit and a few more coats added. I like the effect with the brass bolsters, thought it would clash at first. One thing I don't like is the bolsters made this knife heavier than I'm used to (these were my first attempt at bolsters and was pleased the pins disappeared entirely).

Dave, it's funny you said that, Juliane was wearing your neck knife and said to me "You just tell Dave we're keeping this one!" LOL

That Juliane, she's really funny. Ha ha ha. I am laughing my self silly. She is so very very ha ha ha funny.

Ha ha ha, Juliane.

Dave

PS Hey Guy ole pal ole buddy, I hope you slipped that little beauty in the mail while that funny Juliane was sleeping, ole pal, my best buddy. Right?
