A friend of mine just spent 2 weeks in Spain. He returned home with 2 knives that be bought in Toledo. Both knives are basically identical except one is a clip pointed bowie style blade and the other is a spear point, both with a swedge. The blades are approx. 7" long and the handles are 5". They are stamped "440 Stainless" and both blades have "TOLEDO" stamped on the blades. They are full tang with some type of wood scales that have two solid brass pins and one hollw one for a lanyard at the butt end. They both have a brass bolster/guard. They both have fairly decent leather sheaths, one is brown and the other black. They both have a logo stamped on both the blade and the sheath of each... It is a shield with the letters "J" and "C" inside the shield and the word "CROWNING" underneath. The knives seem to be of very decent quality all around.

Does anyone have any info on these knives? What type of 440 stainless? WHat type of wood are the scales?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!!!!

Thanks-
Cam

Was there any other markings on the tang or the box they came in? Muela and Aitor are the only two that come to mind. Usually they are marked though.

No boxes. No other markings other than the ones mentioned. They are not Muela nor Aitor. My friend was told that they do not sell Aitor knives in Toledo but they do sell Muela.

Thanks-
Cam

I've seen the name "Crowning" on Spanish knives, but I can't remember exactly where. I think it was in the Atlanta Cutlery catalog, but they don't recognize it on a Search. Maybe they just don't carry it now.

The usual forum for ID requests is The Bernard Levine Knife Collecting and Identification Forum but I don't know if you'll have any better luck there.

By the way, 38 views and one day later, for a knife that isn't one of the best known, isn't really unusual. Give it time! Someone will come along who owns one. I'm still trying to visualize the sheath I half-remember, to help "locate" it.

JOSE CASTAÑEDA TUDELA - CROWNING Cuchillería

That's about it. It's Toledo, and one website has that shield with JC in it, too, but I can't find anyone with actual links to the knives, only references to the manufacturer at exhibitions.

Hi,
Here is the site for CROWNING Cuchillería. You will need to have Macromedia Flash Player installed on your computer to view it. If you are on a dial up connection, the Flash Player files take some time to download, be patient.
Regards,
Greg

Thanks for the link!
