Hello, I have a friend traveling Haiti and he was wondering if he could have his buck one hand opening pocketknife.

Anyone have experience with the knife laws in Haiti?

Thanks,

With what I know about Haiti, I doubt local authorities would care about an American tourist and a folding knife. But this is purely conjecture, perhaps there's a Haitian embassy in the US he could contact?

Take along an SAK. It will be useful for opening bottles and cans to get at your food and beverages. And I did say bottles and cans. Do not even think about drinking the tapwater and be wary of ice in your drinks. Yes, disease is your worst threat there...not crime. If you can avoid going at all, you may thank yourself later. That country, unfortunately, is one of the world's worst helllholes and is best avoided.

It's been about 20 years since I've been there, but I doubt even today a pocket knife of any sort would be an issue. The above poster is quite right about the water and ice, stick to bottled water and no ice in the drinks. BTW Barbancourt Rhum distillery in Haiti makes the best rum :)
