Here's a bad pic of a heavy field knife I'm making for a customer. It's 1 1/2" wide, 3/16" thick D2. It has a 5 1/2" blade, 4 1/2" handle, heavy nickel silver guard. The blade is a convex grind drop point. He wants bone stag handles and they will be attached with my commonly used 5/32 brass pins. There is also a 7/32 lanyard hole. I'm going to pin the guard this time. I'm not very good with soldering. My solder jobs are ok, but I need a steadier hand, too much coffee I guess. :D What do you think? Thanks for looking.

Wow, nice knife! Is the gaurd going to stay a rectangle, or are you gonna shape it? For pinning a guard, do you just add apoxy to the pins and gaurd like you would for the scales, or do you use locktite, or what?
Anyway, great knife, can't wait to see the finished product!

Thanks Peter. The guard will be shaped oval and thinned down. When I pin the guard, I'll put nickel silver pins in and peen them down with a good mushroom then grind them smooth until they disappear. The epoxy at the 90 degree area where the handle material and guard meet will help but the pinning is all that's necessary to hold the guard on. You just need to get a good mushroom to hold it down.
