Knife in reserve

There are law enforcement professionals who have to carry a weapon for their job. I know some of them like to own a second handgun in reserve, which is similar to the principal one (or can be simply the same model). If the first one is unavailable (because it is at the gunsmith for maintenance per example) they don't have to carry an unknown weapon they are not used to fire. It can also be the relevant solution if a policeman wants to carry off-duty a smallest version of his working pistol (per example Glock 26/17 combo) to have the same trigger and safety systems.

OK, it is only my knife and it is not as important as a LEO pistol can be :p , but sometimes my small Sebenza blade is dull and I don't have the time to sharp it. When I decide to clean the knife, it is totally dismantled and of course I have to go to do something else. So my EDC is unavailable and fortunately I own a large Sebenza which is always sharp and clean : it my reserve knife. I also carry it for special purposes like in the fields per example.

Who own two times the same knife (or a small/large combo like Spyderco Endura/Delica, Benchmade 705/710 or large/small Sebenza) to always have the same kind of locking mechanism/clip position/opening system/blade design/ect even if the usual one is unavailable ?
:D

I do sometimes own two of an item I truly love. I have a pair of Microtech LCC's, one manual and one DA that I rotate in my EDC just for some of the reasons mentioned, and a Pair of REKAT Sifu that get rotated in the EDC also.
I will also carry combo packages, like my Socom Elite manual mated with a Mini Socom Elite auto in reserve, the manual gets used for all of the hard use chores and the auto stays pristine in case a scaple sharp blade is needed in an emergency.
The one thing I have noticed is that when I switch from tip up to tip down carry, it takes me a couple of days to get my motor skills reaquainted with the new carry style again. That is the only downside I see to aquiring lots of different knives. You need to keep the skills adapted to what you will be using, day to day.
Of course that will NOT stop me from buying more knives in the future.

I have a friend who is a long time police officer. He carries a Spyderco Native as part of his duty equipment.

:D :D :D Same thing for me !

This is my combo :

Have a nice day !

I have alot of combos of the "same knife":

*BM 551/556...Large & small Griptilians.
*2 BM 805 twins.
*2 BM (satin) 145 twins.
*2 SOG Tigersharks, as well as a "medium Tigershark"; a SOG SEAL 2000.
*2 Smith & Wesson HRTDR twins.
*CS X2 Voyager/medium Voyager...Large & small of the same knife.
*And I'll soon have a BM 721, which is basically the G-10 scaled version of my BM 551 Grippy, with different steel.

guilty, but I find that keeping one as a "safe queen" sets my mind at ease in having the other as a user. I play with all my favorite knives alot so I don't notice that big a difference between them. About the biggest problem I have on ocassion is because I'm left handed. I find that sometimes with my sebbenza I try to disengage the locking bar with my index finger like I do with my right handed liner locks. This only pushes the lock further in. BTW thanks for posting the pic of the combo blade sebenza. Was always curious what that looked like. How do you like it?

A pair of Spydie Calypso Jrs. One user, which I dont exactly use, since it's so damn sharp and a box queen

3 Spyderco Chinook II (my all time favorate carry knife)
2 Benchmade 710HS
2 Cold Steel Voyager XL
2 Spyderco Native III 3D

Louky, nice Sebenzas! but who did those serrations? That's not CRK style :)

I was just thinking about exactly your point -- a backup of a similar knife to your EDC. I pulled out a couple of knives I haven't carried in a while, that made a great pair to switch off -- the MOD CQD and CQD II. I had carried the CQD during the day or when I needed a bigger knife, like in the woods. I carried the CQD II if I wanted a smaller, lighter knife, and peculiarly, if I went out at night and needed one for peace of mind. It's stealthier, less noticeable, but the blade is almost as long.

Now you need an Umfaan, for when you need to slice something absolutely unobtrusively :D

I have both regular and classic small Sebenzas, as well as 2 Victorinox Settlers (my main EDC). Having a spare of something you use alot only makes sense.

The small Sebenza serrations are factory made by CRK… it was my only order option (I like to have serrations on a small blade to add cutting length). I expected to have the usual ones (like on the Green Beret), but finally I’m very satisfied with this serrations configuration. They are the same as the Spyderco ones. They are easy to sharp and don’t “break” the blade design.

I think my large Sebenza is also a kind of “safe queen”, I finally don’t often use it.
:D
