If i like the blade style/material of a production knife, but not its housing, is there any way to figure out if i can take apart the production version and use the blade in a kit?

That would be ok. Do you know if there's anywhere to buy just the blades from manufacturers like benchmade or kershaw? Companies that traditionally make good products out of hi end steel? I like customizing and modding them until their basically made by me, but im not trying to make an ats34 or cpms90v folding blade right now...i figure a mass producer of workhorse blades would be my best option, and then build around that

I know knifekits.com. That is where I would be buying the handle material and system. I meant for the blades. I dont like there stock. I would ideally like to build my own housing for a benchmade blade, without buying a whole benchmade knife

It only takes a simple call to Benchmade to see if they sell blanks.... the worst they can say is no. Personally, I would never sell a blank(unless is was a collaboration with a trusted maker). If someone takes one of my blades, sticks a rubber hose over the tang with a pool clamp, then posts pics all over the net with my mark on it.... well, it just looks like I make knives with rubber hose handles.

Hmmmmmmmm..... rubber hose?.... thinking, thinking, thinking...

I'm not sure if you understand that every blade only fits its own frame. You can't take a benchmade blade and put it in DDR3-BL frame.

I know someone will chime in that you can do this and that to change things, but if Rsq had the skills to modify the blades and frames, this thread wouldn't be here.

There are often blade alternates for many of the Knifekits - damascus is one they offer on many kits, and I think some have VG-10 offered.
BTW, depending on your equipment, modifying the handles and changing the scales may or may not be a problem for you.
