Just wanted to preface my post with the fact that I thought maintenance, tinkering, and embellismet was the best fit for this topic as finishing a knife involves at least two of the aforementioned 3. If there's a better place to put it mods feel free. My question though is who has experience with knife kits and knife kit suppliers, was looking to build a fixed blade, and have looked at Jantz, Knifekits.com, and Texas knifemakers supply as they are all pretty similiar in price I was thinking of ordering from Texas knifemakers or Knifekits.com as the sites are more user friendly. But I was wondering if anyone has any companies to endorse or avoid. And experience with putting together any of their models.

for me ive ordered quite a bit from them this year great service and the website is pretty easy to navigate, good prices too, never had a problem with 'em
good luck

I put together a DDR 3 from knifekits.
Came out pretty nice. I added texured G-10. You will have to have the right torx tools, polish the bolsters (shape 'em if you like), and trim, sand and finish your choice of handle material. It was a good learning experience.
Makes you appreciate what a REAL custom knife maker goes through, and why their prices are usually worth it

Ivan,
Which model did you make?

sorry my bad i ordered from them to complete my own version of a kit knife, i was rehandling an old bowie, i have ordered at least 3 times this year, hardware, scale materials and tools and never had a problem. that being said they have a little fixed blade baby cape skinner that i'm thinking of getting and completing. Sorry to lead ya down the wrong path (ivan needs to read and re-read posts before posting himself:foot::D)
happy holidays

I've ordered from Knife Kits (very good customer service i heard) and Texas Knife Supply. No problems. I've put together several DDR1's, they came out great. I'll have to start EDCing them again.

The only problem I've had is that I got ADDICTED to knives and started making knives from scratch:D.

Knife Network Forums has info on kit knives.

Have fun. Enjoy the addiction.

Another consideration would be the Spyderco M4 Mule fixed blade. All it needs is a handle. It would be my choice if I didn't make want to make my own design from scratch.

I have worked with TKS several times buying blade steel and supplies as well as heat-treating services. They are easy to deal with.

I've also ordered from knifekits will good service. Made a frame lock from them, and it's been a very good knife :)
