Knife Kits

I am also thinking of ordering a kit from Texas Knifemakers Supply, the Gambler Bl1164. Its a lock back. Does any one know of any knife makers who sell kits? Either fixed blade or a folding knife?
Thanks.

Alot of makers will whack out a blank for you, even put a finish on it and HT it as well. I have a few coming from Alan Folts that were of my (well he had some input) design. I have a few being made by other makers as well.

Alot of makers will do this for a reasonable price, perhaps a little more than what Texas Knifemaker's charges, but I think it is worth it for something that was made here in the U.S., or made by someone you know and trust, and not whacked out by some machine overseas. It also lets you get your own design made.

I've put together a couple of kits like those, and they're a good place to start. The kit can be finished with just a couple of very basic tools, some sandpaper, and a few hours.

Most of those fixed blade kits are very similar (even that 15 inch Bowie), so pick any blades that look OK to you.

You'll end up with a reasonable knife for not too many dollars and have the fun of putting it together yourself.

I carry the first one I put together when I go bushwalking. Sentimental old me
