I have just read the article in Tactical knives about the Darrel Ralph Koval kit.

How much experiance/knlwedge do you really need to put one of these kits together?

I really fancy the idea of the small 605 with red linen but I am not the least clumsy person I knoow by quite a large margin :D and I have never done anything like that before.

I just finished the large one. I found it fairly easy to do. I used a piece of stabilized maple burl for the scales and it all went together very well. Makes a beautiful and functional knife at a fraction of the cost of some factory knives.

for the price of theese kits you could hold off on the beer and peanuts allowance for a few weeks and see what else you could do? :D go for it! and of course there are plenty of folder makers here that can help if you need some pointers.

Rhinoknives- - holding off the beer & peanuts allowance is too much of a step for any man even for knives :D

I emailed this morning to see if they will ship over to the UK and am just waiting for a reply.

If you're especially squeemish about fittings, etc. then the DDR kit is a good one. Get the prefab scales too, that will make it a good first kit.

We just introduced a few new folder kits.
Take a look..
www.knifekits.com

I think you will make the kits with ease!
Take a look at the faq section for answers to your questions..before taking the plunge. There are also instructions that are down loadable for each knife style.

Those kits are foolproof. I've finished two, one for my brother in law with red micarta scales, and one for my father in law/oak scales. I'm making one for my dad with dymondwood scales. All Christmas gifts. I've been working on them at work, and 3 other guys want to buy one off of me. ($70 each) Not bad for the little work that went into them. The only problem is that now, I want to learn how to make knives. (forging, grinding etc) I never knew how toxic the knife bug was.

Thanks for all the info.

I think I will go for it and now need to pursuade my wife that she wants to buy me a kit for my birthday :D
