Yes. And if you have some tools or the patience to hand sand the handles you can make a pretty nice knife for yourself that you will be proud of. I think a lot of makers probably started out with the kit knives and it should give you a good idea how much you like making knives without completely jumping into it and buying all the tools, supplies, etc. If you decide to do it, check out the makers forum because they have covered just about every question that is possible to ask.
