Hi - Great forums!

I have a question on legality of the sale of daggers and fixed blades in NY state.

My wife and I are retailers in southern New York State, Orange County. We have a small store that sells fantasy oriented handmade items and artwork.
Recently I added some "collectible" knives and daggers to our offerings and they are becoming popular. Anything from handmade decorative pewter handles with small blades 2-4" to larger fixed blades and daggers up to 10-18" +/- . Some of these items are obviosuly just for decoration while others are "real" quality blades.

No switchblades, gravity knives, butterflys, kung fu items, etc.

My questions is, can anyone point me towards the law (if existing) on sale of these items? (we don't sell to anyone under 18 and card babyfaced customers) but is there anything on the legality of actually selling these knives and daggers and are they considered "dangerous weapons" and covered under a general law?

Thanks very much for any input or experiences!

I think you will be OK. I see these items for sale in the open in NYC shops. Generally the knife laws in NYC are much stricter than upstate counties. For example, we cant carry any blades larger than 4 inches. In Orange and Putnam people are allowed to carrry larger blades.
If you are very worried, call the local Police Department or district attorney's office. I have found they are very helpful if you approach them as a citizen concerned about abiding the laws and unclear as to specifics.

Here you go:

As long as you don't sell anything that are prohibited from being carried, you would fine. But, the laws are mostly in regards to possession. Most items you mentioned are legally allowed to be collected.

Lastly, outside of NYC, butterfly knives are perfectly legal to sell and carry.
