Hey Guys,
I got a buddy who is about to leave to go bum around Europe with nothing but a backpack full of gear and about 20 grand for a few years. He is wondering about knife laws in Europe (more specifically British Isles, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, and Sweden). Is anybody knowledgeable about this or could possibly direct me to somewhere that I could find this information for him? He would simply feel naked without one. Thanks all, I really appreciate it!

pfft....that's like asking "Hey guys I'm going to travel around the world....." People tend to forget that european countries are even more diverse than american states. Goodluck with your quest though!

As far as I know, the UK is VERY restrictive. You need a 'good reason' to carry anything over 3 inches. In Germany, large locking folders are illegal to carry.
I think a SAK would be the safest choice.

I have no idea about the other countries, and take my info with a grain of salt, I haven't checked it.

Hi!

In most EU countries, in town, pack the knife at the bottom of your bag.
In woods, just know that European people never use it.
So try to do not fear them.

Also get your backpack everywhere to show the world you are a "tourist", "backpacker", and not a crazy killer.

I know in UK they are really serious with that.

Good luck to your friend!
