Plenty of talk these days about how the laws are tightening up. How about a discussion of how to reverse this trend?

Here is Washington's law:

What is so difficult about changing that paragraph? Is there any chance at all? And if yes, where to start?

I think we must have some brain cells in common, Velitrius, because I was just about to ask the same question.

So, any ideas, anyone? In a state where I can legally carry around a concealed handgun, it seems a little weird that it's illegal for me to even OWN a teensy, cute, little automatic, doesn't it?

(Did we ever establish whether or not balisongs are also Evil Bad Knives according to WA law? I don't remember)..

I don't know, Novadak. But my guess would be that if you got hauled in for carrying a bali, it would be up to the court to interpret that "opens by an outward, downward, or centrifugal thrust or movement" part. (I can pretty much open any of my knives under that description).

Yet another reason to change the S.O.B. I got ahold of my local representative, and we are gonna kick it around here soon. I'll see what he says.

I think the key to getting a law changed is to have a state senator or representative willing to bring it up. You could start be contacting your local state representative. It would probably be a good idea to present him or her with a valid argument. Educate him or her if you will. Presenting them with a petition of their constituants wouldn't hurt either. Perhaps the AKTI would be willing to point you in the right direction.

Okay, here's what I got from the rep. and from a guy running for the Supreme Court this round:

Novadak had a good idea when bringing up the fact that one could pack a concealed pistol, but not an automatic. Seems that this is because the person with the pistol has had an extensive background check and is deemed to be a fine upstanding citizen. Making autos legal would give people the impression that all of the punks, thugs, and vagrants in Washington would be armed with spring loaded stillettos the next night.

Sooooooo, the idea now is to make the concealed carry law include the carry of firearms AND automatic knives. Now that ain't exactly gonna break sales records or anything, but it is a start, and it is a sensible way in.

Now, Anybody live in a state where a Concealed Carry Permit includes automatic knives? I'd love to see some guidelines.
